“Labour Minister’s Assistant” Commences Thai Labour Day in Singapore to Promote Worker Networkers and Rights

            The “Labour Minister’s Assistant” commenced the Thai Labour Day in Singapore, to promote awareness and knowledge about workers’ right, create a network and promote gatherings for the benefit of Thai workers in Singapore.

 

 

 

          On May 1, 2019, the Labour Minister’s Assistant, General Amnat Unardngam presided over the commencement of the Thai Labour Day in Singapore and joined the Thai Labour Day event in Singapore. Ambassador of Thailand to Singapore, Ms. Sirinthra Atthakorn, gave a speech and Minister-Counselor (on labour) Ms. Kamonwan Boonyuen gave a report. The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mr. Somsak Apiwantanakul and committee also joined the event at the park at Nicoll Highway MRT Station in Singapore.
          International Labour Day, which falls on May 1 of every year, also known as "Labour Day", is given importance by the International Labour Organization, governments of various countries and society have given importance. The day is celebrated internationally to promote and support the International Labour Federation and has been declared a national holiday in nearly 80 countries around the world Including Singapore. In Singapore, there are about 20,000 Thai workers. The Labour Office in Singapore sees the importance of the International Labour Day and therefore organized the Labour Day event to promote awareness of labour rights and safety at work for the benefit of Thai workers. It organized activities to provide services to Thai workers of relevant government and private agencies whereby the activities aimed to promote awareness and knowledge about labour rights, showcased an exhibition promoting knowledge that is useful for Thai workers in Singapore, labour network activities and promoting the integration of Thai workers in Singapore, promoting effective use of free time, such as volunteers, sports, religious activities, Thai traditions, consistent with the recruitment of International Labour Day, and promote the operation of the Labour Office’s mission in Singapore to achieve its goals according to the work plan and mission of the Ministry of Labour.
          The event hosted interesting activities such as exhibitions from the Ministry of Labour in Singapore. Ministry of Environment, anti-drugs, civil defense police, the Water Conservation Unit, NEF, STOU, consular services, labour clinic, games, folk Isan music performances, live music performances from the MMC, the Thai Shane Lee Foundation, Thai cultural performances, live music performances from Paowalee Pornpimon and Sam Samrum under the GMM Grammy and lucky draws. There were booths by government and private agencies in the event as well.
