Labour Minister Awards Diplomas to Trainees in Potential Development Program for Women in the Workplace in Nakhon Ratchasima

        The Labour Minister awarded diplomas to those who completed the training on the potential development of female workers in the workplace in Nakhon Ratchasima province. The training aimed to increase labour productivity, supporting career advancement, reducing the skills gap between women and men and increase the capacity for companies.

 

 

        On September 26, 2019, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul chaired the closing ceremony and awarded certificates to women workers who completed the training program at Seagate Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Sung Noen, Nakhon Ratchasima. He said that the government, under Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha has formulated a 20-year national development strategy to build competitiveness. It aims to develop the country's human resource potential and improve labour productivity so that workers at all levels are equipped with the skill and qualities that can support the needs of the labour market and changing technology of industry and services to build the country's competitiveness. It also looked at capacity development for women workers, providing valuable knowledge and skills for work and careers, as the economy and technology causing changes in the workplace. The International Labour Organization expects that over 17 million Thai workers will face the risk of such changes, and women are more likely to become unemployed than men.
        M.R. Chatumongol said that the Ministry of Labour, by the Department of Skill Development together with the International Labour Organization, establish this project to develop the potential of female workers in the workplace, particularly in the electrical and electronic industry. Over 85 percent of female workers in the said industry lack skills and require the development of skills in the application of technology, innovation, and data analysis, to adapt to surrounding changes. The efforts will increase labour productivity and capacity for the workplace, which will impact the overall national industry.
        The training, following the project to develop the potential of female workers in the workplace, took place at the Nakhon Ratchasima Institute of Skill Development 5 and Prachinburi Office of Skill Development. The two agencies organized the skill training course on data analysis and presentation for the production process, which took 36 hours and designed for women who work in production belts in the electrical and electronics industry at Seagate Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Sung Noen, Nakhon Ratchasima. The course took place in batches of 30 trainees, between May to September 2019, with a total of 35 training batches and 1,050 trainees. The training will allow trainees to apply the knowledge gained to work more efficiently, reduce the skill gap between men and women, prevents women from losing jobs due to technological changes and enhance the potential of women by supporting career advancement.
