Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin revealed that Duty Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan urged the Ministry of Labour to follow up and assist employees from Brilliant Alliance Thai Global Co., Ltd., which produces undergarments. The company is based in Samut Prakan Province, and whereby employees were laid off and have received unemployment compensation from the Social Security Office already.
On April 8, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported the progress on assisting employees who were impacted by Brilliant Alliance Thai Global Co., Ltd., a producer of undergarments in Samut Prakarn. The employees were laid off due to closure and did not receive compensation. Previously, the employees had met him at the Ministry of Labour to expedite compensation and benefits to employees as soon as possible. The Labour Minister provided an update to Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha, who gave his concern and encouragement to all workers. Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, already knows the issue and showed concern for the affected workers. He instructed the Ministry of Labour to work proactively and provide urgent assistance. Therefore, the Labour Minister ordered the Social Security Office to pay compensation in case of unemployment as soon as possible, according to the said order.
Mr. Suchart continued that the latest report from the Triumph International Workers Union of Thailand, who are employees of Brilliant Alliance Thai Global Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of women’s undergarments in Samut Prakan, the employees have reported themselves in the event of unemployment to the Social Security Office. The Social Security Office has started to gradually transfer unemployment compensation and remaining wages to affected employees who were laid off due to closure and did not receive compensation. The Social Security Office will ensure that the employees receive legal benefits. Labour inspectors from the Samut Prakan Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Office have instructed employers to pay wages for unused annual vacation days, wages in lieu of notice, and compensation to employees, totaling 242,689,862.71 Baht.
“In the case of the said company’s closure, all employees lost their jobs immediately, causing employees to worry that the company would terminate their employment without them receiving compensation from the company. This is caused by the company experiencing a decrease in product orders and lacking financial liquidity. I have brought this issue to the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister’s abstention. They have assigned me, as the Labour Minister, to urgently assist the employees. I have instructed the Social Security Office to pay compensation in case of unemployment as soon as possible. To date, the employees have received such benefits,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
