IOM Pays Courtesy Call to Permanent Secretary of Labour and Discusses Official Matters

          Today (January 19, 2021) at 13.30 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Mrs. Phattana Phanfak, Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour Ms. Pattaraporn Samantarat, and other agencies under the Ministry of Labour welcomed Chief of Mission for International Organization for Migration, Thailand, Ms. Geraldine Ansart and committee, on courtesy call and to discuss cooperation in all dimensions of migration affecting Thailand and neighboring countries. The meeting took place at the Permanent Secretary of Labour’s meeting room, 7th floor, Ministry of Labour. The following issues were discussed: 1) Thailand’s membership of the Colombo Process and introductions to the project on migrant worker management in South Asia and Southeast Asia. 2) The Ministry of Labour is leading activities following the ASEAN Committee Program on implementing the ASEAN Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of Migrant Workers’ Rights. In particular, the meeting to set up a program with the Ministry of Public Health to prevent the spread of Covid-19. 3) To introduce a global policy network program to support fair recruitment, to serve as a network to bridge gaps in foreign labour protection regulations and enforcement by gathering key problems and practices, and 4) Supporting the Ministry of Labour in formulating policies and practices on recruitment, including the protection of migrant workers according to the guidelines of Thailand’s National Action Plan for Business and Human Rights (2019 – 2022). The meeting also discussed opportunities to develop a fair employment plan for Thailand.
