Labour Minister Assigns Advisor to Commence Activities to Strengthen Informal Labour Associations to Create Awareness on Labour Laws and Access to Protection Rights

          On January 19, 2023, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned the Labour Minister’s Advisor, Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, to preside over the opening ceremony of the meeting to clarify activities to strengthen the informal labour association for 2023. The President of the Ban Mo Subdistrict Administrative Organization, heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Phetchaburi Province, and meeting attendees gave a welcome at the multi-purpose meeting room, Ban Mo Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Mueang Phetchaburi District, Phetchaburi Province.
          Mrs. Thiwalrat said that the Ministry of Labour, under the supervision of the Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin, gives importance to improving the quality of life of informal workers. The informal worker population is expanding continuously, whereby the informal sector is the country’s largest labour force. It is important in driving the economy, society, and national security. Therefore, it is necessary to create knowledge and understanding about labour laws, focusing on all informal workers to receive legal benefits, gain access to social services, and be thoroughly protected and treated fairly and equally to workers in the system. As a result, workers have stability, good quality of life, and sustainability.
          Mrs. Thiwalrat continued that the Phetchaburi Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Office organized the meeting to clarify activities to strengthen the informal workers association. It aims to strengthen the informal labour network as a mechanism to drive the missions of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare and contribute to the development of valuable work. It aims to provide informal workers with access to social rights and services and be thoroughly protected. Therefore, the Phetchaburi Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Office have a process to strengthen and develop informal labour associations to have knowledge and skills in occupational safety, health, and working environment and to be able to apply this in life and transfer knowledge to those involved in the future.
