Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomlin assigned his Secretariat to join a video conference to follow up on job placements’ progress following the Job Expo Thailand 2020 event. He was delighted to see a continuous increase and is confident that proactive employment policies will help businesses and economic growth from the impacts of Covid-19.
On January 19, 2021, at 13.30 hours, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned the Labour Minister’s Secretariat Mr. Suthep Chitayavong, presided over the video conference meeting to monitor the progress of the Job Expo Thailand 2020 event. The meeting took place at the Tri Thep Meeting Room 2, 14th floor, Department of Employment. Advisor to the Labour Minister Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan joined to co-chair the meeting and the Ministry of Labour’s executives. Mr. Suthep said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the Ministry of Labour under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, give great importance to the issue of unemployment, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic which has affected a large population. The Cabinet has approved amendments to the qualifications and conditions for joining the new employment promotion program for new graduates by the public and private sectors (Co-payment) to allow fresh graduates to find work and for employers/business establishments to generate liquidity in business operations, receiving equal benefits and filling vacancies as soon as possible. In this regard, the Department of Employment’s data as of January 18, 2021, found that 857,888 people have filled vacancies, from the overall target of 1 million people. The employment has generated over 28,000 million Baht to the economy. Calculated according to economic principles, this money will be able to circulate in the economy about five times, representing up to 141,009,721,350 Baht.
Mr. Suthep added that Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin foresees that in 2021, a proactive policy must be established. Namely, to maintain employment in industries that generate income for the country to support its economy. Therefore, the focus must be on the export manufacturing industry to cause problems and stop businesses due to the Covid-19 infection of the production line workers. This is the source of the new policy to provide proactive Covid-19 screening in the workplace targeting Samut Sakhon province because there are many industrial factories for export. This will help such factories to continue to produce products and to be trusted by foreign customers that the goods are exported from factories 100 percent free of Covid-19 infections. Secondly, the policies look to earn income into the country by seeking additional labour markets abroad. Thai workers are accepted and wanted abroad as there is confidence in the Thai public health system, which has been able to control and prevent the Covid-19 outbreak. In the past, Thailand has continuously deployed Thai workers to Israel, Sweden, Taiwan, Japan, amongst other countries, which generates an enormous amount of income into the country, valued at hundreds of billions of Baht per year. Finally, the policy aims to continuously promote domestic employment by organizing the Job Expo Thailand once a year, providing the workforce with sustainable work and good quality of life.
