Labour Minister Instructs Provincial Agencies to Investigate Case of Deceased Worker from Falling Steel on Railway in Petchaburi to Support Family with Legal Entitlements

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin expressed concern for the worker who died from steel falling on a railway in Cha-am, Phetchaburi. He instructed the Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Office and the Provincial Social Security Office in Phetchaburi to visit the area and investigate the compliance with safety laws at work, including the status of the worker as an insured person to help the families of the deceased to receive benefits and protection according to the law.

          On June 10, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported the progress on the incident of steel falling on a railway worker, to their death, at Nong Ta Phot Railway Bridge, Cha-am, Phetchaburi. The Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha and the Ministry of Labour, under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, showed concern about the safety of workers in various sectors. The Ministry of Labour was instructed to campaign and raise awareness of safety at work by sending workplace safety officers at work to inspect and emphasize that employers strictly comply with safety laws to avoid loss of life from work from such cases. The Labour Minister instructed the Phetchaburi Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Office and the Provincial Social Security Office to visit the area and investigate the facts and compliance with safety laws at work, including the status of the worker as an insured person to help the families of the deceased to receive benefits and protection according to the law quickly.

          Mr. Suchart said that the case is currently under investigation from the preliminary report of the Phetchaburi Provincial Office of Labor Protection and Welfare. Officers were deployed to the scene of the accident. The employer will be invited to a meeting. As of now, it is known that the employer is staying in Prachuap Khiri Khan. An interview will be scheduled on June 16 at 14.00 hours for further proceedings concerning occupational safety, health, and work environment laws. The Phetchaburi Social Security Office visited the area to check the insured status of the worker. The decreased was insured under Section 33, and their family will receive legal benefits, including a funeral payment of 40,000 Baht and compensation for the employee’s death at 70 percent of the wages for ten years.

          In this regard, agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Phetchaburi will coordinate assistance to pay such benefits to the deceased’s family.
