Labour Minister Reports Government and Private Sector Cooperation on Driving Covid-19 Preventative Measures in Factories to Drive Businesses Forward

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin met with the Minister of Industry Mr. Suriya Chuengroongruangkit and related agencies to discuss preventive measures to control the spread of Covid-19 in factories and build immune community immunity to help the business sector move forward quickly.

          Today (June 11, 2021) at 14.00 hours, at the OrGor. 1 Meeting Room, 2nd floor, Office of the Permanent Secretary of Industry, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin and Minister of Industry Mr. Suriya Chuengroongruangkit chaired the meeting to discuss measures to prevent and control the spread of Covid-19 in factories. The meeting took place via VDO conference. Assistant to the Labour Minister Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong, Advisor to the Labour Minister Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, the Labour Minister’s Secretariat Mr. Suthep Chitayawong, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries Mr. Suphan Mongkolsuthi, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce Mr. Sanan Angubolkul also joined the meeting. The Labour Minister said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the Ministry of Labour under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan is concerned about workers in factories amid the Covid-19 outbreaks. The government’s Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has assigned the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Labor as hosts to drive preventive measures and control the spread of Covid-19 in factories, both inside and outside industrial estates.

          Mr. Suchart said that there are currently 11 million people insured under Section 33. The Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office has responded to the government policy by requesting cooperation from employers in the social security system to survey and fill out the requirements for Covid-19 vaccinations among insured via their website, from May 11 to June 3, 2021. From the survey, 6,012,662 insured persons under Section 33 expressed interest for Covid-19 vaccinations, representing 77.5 percent. Today, the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Industry, including relevant agencies met to discuss important agendas to consider measures to expedite vaccinations for personnel and workers in factory business establishments.

          “The Ministry of Labour is concerned about the workforce and workers in factories amid Covid-19 outbreaks. With the cooperation of the Ministry of Industry and related agencies, the meeting discussed guidelines to determine measures to expedite vaccinations for personnel and workers in factory business establishments. The efforts aim to prevent and control of the spread of COVID-19 in factories as well as building immunity among workers to bring the situation back to normal for the business sector to be able to move on as quickly as possible,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
