Labour Minister Shows Concern for Thai Crew Members in Shipwreck off Taiwan’s Cost and Instructs Local Agencies to Visit Relatives for Support

        The Labour Minister showed concern for Thai crew members on a vessel that crashed off Taiwan’s Kaohsiung coast side. He ordered the provincial labour force to lead a team of local agencies to visit their relatives, provide clarification of information and assistance regarding various benefits to get by the procedure of the law and inform the progress of the search for the rest of the Thai crew.
        On October 27, 2020, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the progress of assistance to Thai workers who have suffered a shipwreck off the coast of Kaohsiung of Taiwan on October 23. Two people were injured, including Mr. Woradej Chanthong, 29, a resident of Surin who suffered head injuries, Mr. Siripol Kotsiri, 26, from Samut Prakan, with injuries to his left ankle. They were taken to Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital for treatment. In addition, there were three other people, including Mr. Nattaphon Meekeaw, 33, a native of Udon Thani, Mr. Thanasak Denkrajang, 43, a resident of Mukdahan and Mr. Phacharaphon Saibum, 29, a native of Ubon Ratchathani. Their symptoms were not so severe, so they were taken to State Quarantine to rest. Meanwhile, the remaining Thai workers included Mr. Thiraphong Chantaros, 49, from Bangkok, Mr. Achirawit Hengsiri, 23, a native of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Mr. Annop Kansomdee, 54, a Sakon Nakhon resident, Mr. Thanon Tharnitwaranon, 34, a native of Prachuap Khiri Khan and Mr. Rittichai Sukree, 31, a resident of Nakhon Pathom, totaling five people, whereby the Taiwan officials are actively mobilizing the search further.
         Mr. Suchart continued that Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha has received such information and is concerned about the injured Thai workers and those still unfound. Today, he ordered the provincial workers and agencies under the Ministry of Labour in each province that is the homeland of Thai workers to meet relatives to give words of encouragement and clarify information about the benefits of following the law. For example, the Provincial Social Security Office to verify the insured person’s status, the Provincial Employment Office to check the membership of funds to help people find work to work abroad, assist, rights, and benefits according to the steps of the law. He also instructed the officials to closely inform the progress of searching for the remaining Thai workers.
