Over the past 7 days, local authority in Selangor undertook tight inspection of massage centers and their workers following growing public concern in the state. The inspection targeted both licensed and unlicensed businesses.

The inspection took place at several areas where there are number of massage centers, including Kota Damansara, Selayang, Subang Java, Petaling Java, Klang, and Kajang. In the meantime, the Malaysian government also stops issuing a business license for new businesses.

State Local Government Committee Chairman claimed that there are only 60 massage centers that are legally operating in Selangor, most of which are located in Ampang Java area. He noted that most of massage centers in Kota Damansara, Selayang, Subang Java, Petalling Java, Klnag, and Kajang are operating without a business license, which is illegal. He also said he got positive responses from local authority and police having requested them to undertake tighter inspection of unlicensed massage centers and impose tighter control on illegal work in the state.

Office of Labour Affiars in Malaysia said Malaysian authority will tighten its inspection of massage businesses, not only in Selangor but also in other states. Foreign workers have also recently been arrested for working illegally in the country although the majority of them are from China, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Office of Labour Affairs in Malaysia said Thai jobseekers seeking for a job in Malaysia should be more cautious before taking a job in massage business and should first check the information of a business and a business operator.
