Permanent Secretary Reports the Wage Committee Missing a Quorum of 2 Out of 3; New Meeting Scheduled on September 24

     On September 20, 2024, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, gave a report after the 22nd Wage Committee meeting No. 9/2024. He said that today’s meeting did not fail, but the quorum was not complete because representatives from the government sector did not attend the meeting. Two employee representatives did not participate in the meeting due to other engagements, resulting in a quorum of 2 out of 3. According to the regulations, there must be ten or more attendees. Today, the meeting presented information on the employment conditions of employees to the meeting to inform them of how many businesses currently employ employees who pay a wage of 400 Baht and what impact it has on Thai and foreign workers. According to data from the Social Security Office, if the minimum wage is 400 Baht, approximately 1 million foreign workers and 4 million Thai workers will benefit. Labour Minister Leads Team to Send Relief Bags to Help the Flood Crisis and Mobilize Networks to Prepare for Repairs of Homes, Electrical Appliances, and Occupational Assistance via 1506

On September 16, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, chaired the handover of the first batch of additional relief bags to be transported to help flood victims in Chiang Rai Province. The Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, and the Ministry of Labour’s senior executives joined the event in the lobby on the ground floor. Mr. Phiphat said that due to the flood situation in many provinces in both the North and the Northeast, the Ministry of Labour is concerned about the lives of our fellow citizens, as well as personnel and labour networks. Today, the Ministry of Labour joined forces with the private sector network to deliver consumer goods, rice, dried food, medical supplies, and relief bags for the first batch. Permanent Secretary of Labour Joins Labour Minister’s Team to Send Relief Bags to Help Flood Victims

On September 16, 2024, at 15.00 hours, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, participated in delivering 1,000 relief bags to help flood victims in Chiang Rai Province. The Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, chaired the delivery of relief bags, and senior executives from the Ministry of Labour joined the event in the lobby on the ground floor of the Ministry of Labour. The delivery of the relief bags is a result of cooperation between agencies under the Ministry of Labour and the private sector, which have jointly provided consumer goods to be packed in relief bags to help flood victims. All relief bags will be transported by a 6-wheel truck from the Social Security Office to the Ministry of Labour in the Chiang Rai Government Center for agencies under the Ministry of Labour to help flood victims in Chiang Rai Province. The Ministry of Labour has collaborated with a network of private-sector businesses to deliver the first batch of consumer goods, rice, dried food, and medical supplies. The second and third batches will then be delivered to help flood victims.

Labour Minister Gives Speech to Send Off Thai Youths Participating in 47th WorldSkills Competition

On September 6, 2024, at 09.00 hours, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, gave a speech to Thailand’s youth representatives who will travel to participate in the 47th WorldSkills Competition in Lyon or WorldSkills Lyon 2024, in France. The Social Security Office’s Secretary-General, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Decha Phruekpattanarak, the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, Ms. Bubpha Rueangsud, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives, joined the event at the Chatumongkol Room, 6th floor, Ministry of Labor Building. The 47th WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, or WorldSkills Lyon 2024, in France, is scheduled to take place between September 11 to 14, 2024. There are 59 categories and three demonstration categories in total, with Thailand competing in 19 categories. There are 22 Thai youth representatives participating in the competition, with 3 teams and 16 individuals.

MOL Delivers Relief Bags Forwarding Kindness to Support Flood Victims

On September 2, 2024, at 16.00 hours, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, chaired the handover of 300 relief bags to the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, Ms. Bubpha Rueangsud, to forward the generosity to distribute relief supplies to the people affected by the floods. The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-Generals, Mr. Samat Pattamasukon, Mr. Somphon Kwangkaew, Mrs. Marasri Jairangsi, and Assistants to the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Ms. Kornjirat Phongchansathorn and Sakdinart Sonthisakyotin joined the event at the lobby on the 1st floor of the Ministry of Labour. Labour Minister Delighted with One Tambon, One Independent Career Group Progress, Invites People to Join the Fair this Week

The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, as the chairman of the working group driving the development of independent career potential under the “One Tambon, One Independent Career Group” policy, said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, is satisfied with the continuous progress of the work results. Labour Minister Instructs Resolution to Chinese Investors’ Outstanding Wage Payments to 700 Myanmar Workers

  The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, has instructed the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare and related agencies to follow up on the resolution of the case of 700 Myanmar migrant workers who gathered to demand unpaid wages from their Chinese employers in the Rojana Industrial Estate, Prachin Buri Province on August 16. Initial investigations by the Ministry of Labour found that the problem was caused by the delay in the inspection process and the international money transfer from the parent company in China. Labour inspectors and company representatives discussed and paid employees 500 Baht each to alleviate their hardships on August 17, 2024. The company promised to improve financial supervision by paying wages in cash and having company representatives oversee them systematically, starting from August onwards. On August 3, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, visited Satun Province to give encouragement and give gifts to one disabled insured person. Labour Minister Instructs Monitoring of Establishments/Employees After the Phuket Floods Subside

The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, revealed that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, received a report that the flood in Phuket has now resolved to normal. Phuket has 13,420 establishments and approximately 166,536 insured employees. The Phuket Labour Office worked together with the provincial administration, local leaders, volunteers, and the public to support activities to help restore and help victims in flooded areas and take care of people at temporary shelters (worker camps) to alleviate the suffering of people in the area.
