Thai Youths Win 9 Medals at WorldSkills; Labour Minister Injects Prize Money Valued Over 1 Million Baht

On September 17, 2024, at 18.00 hours, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, chaired the award ceremony or certificates of honour for competitors in the WorldSkills Lyon 2024. He also presented plaques of honour to competition sponsors. Thailand’s young competitors brought won one gold medal, one silver medal, and seven medals of outstanding skills, along with a total prize of over a million Baht. MOL Cautions Against Travel to Israel and Lebanon for Work Temporarily and Prepares to Send More Thai Workers to South Korea

            The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, received a report from the Department of Employment, Labour Section, Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv and the Labor Office in Saudi Arabia regarding the tense situation in Israel and Lebanon; it reported a possibility that the situation might expand and intensify from the incident on July 31, 2024 in Iran. The Ministry of Labour has assessed the situation and would like to inform Thai workers to temporarily postpone traveling to work in Israel and Lebanon by all means until further notice.             Sending Thai workers to work abroad is an important policy of the Ministry of Labour, which aims to help drive the economy. This year, the target is set at 100,000 people. As of the end of July, 77,918 Thai workers have been sent abroad, accounting for 77.92 percent of the target. Labour Minister Welcomes the Gender and Development Research Institute to Discuss the Protection and Care of Female Workers’ Rights Among Independent Workers, Informal Workers, and Vulnerable Groups

  On August 16, 2024, at 09.00 hours, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, welcomed the Director of the Gender and Development Research Institute, Ms. Rueangrawee Pichaikun on the occasion of a meeting to present research data and issues regarding the care and protection of the rights of female workers in independent labour groups, informal labour groups, and vulnerable groups, covering violence and threats against female workers and the right to 180 days of maternity leave and allowing men to take leave to care for their wives while giving birth for 30 days.   The Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Aree Krainara, the Deputy Permanent Secretaries of Labour, Mr. Wannarat Srisuksai, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives joined in the welcome. Labour Minister Promotes Labour Standards in the Northeast and Opens a Thai Boxing and Massage Skill Testing Center to Issue Certificates for Work  Immediately

            On July 25, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, assigned the Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Aree Krainara, to the northeastern region of Udon Thani to present the Labour Skill Standards Testing Center for Muay Thai Trainers in Level 1 sign to the National Sports University, Udon Thani Campus, and the National Labour Skill Standards Testing Center for Thai Massage.               After presenting the testing center sign, the Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Aree Krainara, said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, places importance on national labour skill standards in all fields. Labour Minister Accelerates the Creation of Muay Thai Standards to Promote Soft Power and Increase Economic Value

            The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, reported that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, has accelerated the creation of Muay Thai trainer standards to support the government’s world-class Muay Thai soft power policy, to increase the economic value of the country. There are currently over 5,000 Muay Thai training camps nationwide, 4,000 throughout Europe, and 1,700 in the United States and 50 other countries. In the United States, the Muay Thai industry is valued at 1.25 billion USD. In Thailand, it is valued at over 100 billion Baht. Thailand has developed Muay Thai until it became widely known. It has been able to successfully push Muay Thai to be included in the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA.             The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson said that the Labour Minister wants to upgrade the Ministry of Labour to a ministry that plays an economic role. MOL Strengthens the Potential of 540 Volunteer Workers, Leaders of Labour Services to the People in Bangkok

          On July 19, 2024, at 13.30 hours, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, chaired the opening ceremony of the project to strengthen the potential of labour services at the local level. The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mrs. Marasri Jairangsi, also attended the occasion, which took place at the Prince Ballroom 2 – 3, 11th floor, Prince Palace Hotel, Pom Prap Sattru Phai District, Bangkok.           Mr. Pairoj said that the Ministry of Labour thanked the Bangkok labor volunteers for their volunteer spirit and for sacrificing their time, physical energy, and financial resources to join in working for the Ministry of Labour in the 2024 fiscal year 2024. Labour Minister Visits Early Childhood Center in Nakhon Pathom to Monitor and Provide Policies

     On Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 11.00 hours, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, visited Nakhon Pathom Province to monitor and provide policies for the operation of the Children Center, Sirindhorn Raja Vidyalaya Campus Under Royal Patronage, to align with the standards of the National Early Childhood Development Center and to provide morale to personnel, nannies, and teachers in charge of caring for early childhood children. The Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, the Ministry of Labour’s executives, the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Director-General, Mrs. Sopa Kieatnircha, Deputy Director-Generals, Acting Second Lieutenant Somsak Promdam, and Mrs. Watcharee Makwan, the Deputy Governor of Nakhon Pathom Province, Mr. Teerayut Chanditthawong, department executives, and heads of government agencies in the area gave a welcome. Labour Minister Pushes Economic Stimulus Measures in the Labour Sector Accelerating Job Creation, Reducing Costs, and Enhancing Skills

            The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, has pushed for economic stimulus and relief measures for entrepreneurs and workers affected by rising production costs, increases in interest, technological changes, relocation of production bases and importing products from China. Through economic stimulus measures, the Ministry of Labour has hastened the creation of jobs in the country. It organized the Job Expo Thailand 2024, with over 110,000 people applying for jobs, matching employment through the “khontumngan” platform to support laid-off people who want to work as freelancers. Matching employment through the “thaimeengantum” platform, with over 177,000 job openings nationwide. It organized labour markets in every province and expanded the labour market in foreign countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Australia, New Zealand, and Portugal. On July 10, 2024, at 17.00 hours, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, chaired the opening of the 30th National Skills Competition, regional level, at the Prem Music Hall, Thaksin University. Permanent Secretary Reveals US Maintaining Thailand in Tier 2 Status, Commends All Sectors for Working Together to Eliminate Human Trafficking

  The Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, spoke about the United States Department of State’s Trafficking In Persons Report 2024 on June 24, whereby Thailand maintains the Tier 2 status, which is the same as last year. The report compiles data on human trafficking from 186 countries and economies. According to the report, Thailand’s efforts to solve human trafficking are increasing. Thailand does not meet minimum standards completely in eliminating human trafficking, but significant efforts have been made to do so. The government has demonstrated an overall push for efforts compared to the previous reporting period on issues such as the number of human trafficking investigations, prosecutions, and the number of victims being screened and referred for services. There have been investigations into government officials accused of involvement in human trafficking cases and greater separation of victims who are migrant workers, including separating victims of exploitation in the fishing sector.      On June 18, 2024, at 13.30 hours, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, assigned the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mr. Nantachai Panyasurarit, to attend the Executive Subcommittee Meeting for the 36th National Occupational Health and Safety Fair, 2024, No. 2/2024.
