Cabinet Approves 13.5 Bn Baht Budget to Remedy Employers and Employees in 10 Provinces Under 9 Business Categories

          On July 21, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported that yesterday (July 20, 2021), the Cabinet approved a budget of 13.5 billion Baht to remedy workers and businesses following measures to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 in the highest and strictest control areas in 10 provinces, namely Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, and Songkhla. The measures cover nine types of business, namely construction, accommodation and food services, art activities, entertainment and recreation, and other service activities, to nine branches, with the addition of transportation and storage, wholesale and retail, automotive repair, administrative, and support activities, professional activities in science and academia, and information and communication activities.
          Mr. Suchart said that for Section 33 insured persons, in addition to receiving compensation for force majeure at 50 percent of wages, Thai nationals who are insured persons will receive additional support from the government for an additional 2,500 Baht per person. The compensation will be transferred via PromptPay, using the insured persons’ identification number only. Employers will receive compensation from the government according to the number of employees, at a rate of 3,000 Baht per employee, up to a maximum of 200 employees. Employers with an individual status will receive the compensation via PromptPay account using their identification number as well. Employers with corporate status will get the compensation transferred to a bank account under the name of the employer’s juristic person.
          “The Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha cares about all groups of workers, including employers and businesses affected by COVID-19. Therefore, remedial measures have been launched to alleviate suffering. The measures cover 2.8 million employees, valued at 7.1 billion Baht. The Cabinet’s resolution will support workers and businesses in ten provinces, helping approximately 160,000 employers valued at 6.4 billion Baht. Employees and employers can check their eligibility on the Social Security Office website from July 20, 2021. Employees and employers in the ten provinces are expected to receive compensation on August 6,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
