Deputy Labour Minister Expedites Support to Camp Workers to Alleviate COVID-19 Suffering

Content Description

On July 26, 2021, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumoื Pinyosinwat revealed that today, he assigned a team to deliver food boxes to the construction worker camps affected by the closure of the worker camps following measures to control the spread of COVID-19. The effort aims to alleviate suffering. Today, the team delivered food boxes to three construction camps. The first was at Nawarat Patanakarn PCL, located on Soi Ladprao 112, the second was at U Work 999 Co., Ltd., around Soi Watcharaphon 18, and the third was at Siam Park Bangkok Co., Ltd., at the Bangkok World Project (Siam Park).

The Deputy Labour Minister added that she had received a report from the team that the worker’s camp at U Work 999 Co., Ltd., Soi Watcharaphon 18, Khlong Thanon, Sai Mai District, has never had a government official deliver food boxes to them. There was only a stream of kindness from a few people, which sometimes was not enough. Usually, the employer would provide food to the workers at the construction camp. Still, because the employer brought food as pots and let the workers share the food among themselves, it caused insufficient food for the workers. Therefore, they would have to cook more by themselves, such as collecting morning glory in the camp to cook. In this part, they will coordinate with relevant agencies to continue to aid and alleviate suffering.

The worker’s camp has both Thai and foreign workers. There are five pregnant women, two newborns, three infants, and one handicapped child. The camp also needs support for consumer goods such as rice, dry foods, generic pharmaceuticals, pampers, drinking water, powdered milk, hygiene masks, and alcohol. In the context of the COVID-19 situation, no infected persons were found in this worker’s camp. The last test was done on July 24, 2021, and some of the workers have already been vaccinated.

“I would like to encourage all parties to help the workers together. There are still many camps that lack opportunity and still need help. If there is any useful information, you can report it to the Ministry of Labour to be a part of helping the workers,” concluded the Deputy Labour Minister.
