Labour Minister Cares for Thai Worker in Israel with Ischemic Stroke by Transfer to Domicile

          The Labour Minister showed concern for the Thai worker in Israel suffering from an ischemic stroke. He asked for immediate coordination with the Suvarnabhumi Immigration Checkpoint and Department of Employment to facilitate the transfer of the Thai worker back to a hospital in their hometown and check the benefits from the fund.

          On January 23, 2020, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul show concern about the case of a Thai worker working in Israel, suffering from an ischemic stroke. He assigned the Department of Employment’s Deputy Director-General Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, along with the staff of the Permanent Secretary’s International Cooperation Agency Office and the Department of Employment’s officials to facilitate the transfer of the Thai worker to a hospital in their domicile and check the benefits from the fund to help job seekers to work abroad.

          Mr. Phraiboon Boonpah, aged 39, residing at No. 98, Moo 4, Na Thom, Thung Fon, Udon Thani, traveled to work in Israel through the Department of Employment. He is a member of the fund that supports job seekers in a foreign country and was on a 2-year contract for agricultural work, in the agricultural service industry. He was employed on May 10, 2018, with the employer named Yakov Meil ​​at Moshav Yated, and escaped the employer on August 16, 2019. Currently, he has no place of work or accommodation and has an illegal immigration status with no employer or earnings, and therefore his benefits could not be found. On November 27, 2019, Mr. Phraiboon suffered from an ischemic stroke and was admitted to Asaf Harofe Hospital. On January 17, 2020, Mr. Phraiboon recovered and is ready to return to Thailand. Mrs. Kanchana Boonpah signed the letter of debt acceptance at the Thai Overseas Protection Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

          Mr. Phraiboon Boonpah, is scheduled to arrive in Thailand today (January 23, 2020) following the local time in Israel. He is travelling with the supervision of a medical team on Al Israel Airlines, flight LY 0083 departing from Tel Aviv, Yafo International Airport on January 22, 2020 at 20.05 hours in Israel’s local time. He is scheduled to arrive at Suvarnabhumi International Airport today (January 23, 2020) at 12.05 hours. The Royal Thai Embassy in ​​Tel Aviv, Israel, has taken care of and checked his benefits and sent Mr. Phraiboon to Tel Aviv Yafo Airport on the day of departure.

          M.R. Chatumongol further said that in helping this Thai worker, the Ministry of Labour by the Office of International Cooperation and Department of Employment facilitated the transfer. The Ministry of Public Health helped coordinate with the hospitals in their hometown, and the NHSO helped with medical rights. In the case of fleeing the employer, he will not be covered by the fund to assist job seekers to work abroad, and in the event of illness will not be covered by the fund as it has to be the case of danger to the point of disability, in order to receive assistance.

          The Labour Minister stressed that the workers wishing to travel to work abroad, do so through the 5 legal channels, including recruitment agencies and the Department of Employment’s arrangements. People who make their own arrangements must report their travel within no less than 15 days before traveling. Other channels are through employers in Thailand who deploy employees abroad and employers in Thailand who send their employees for training, He also emphasized that Thai workers traveling to work abroad apply as a fund member to help people find jobs to work overseas and to not flee their employer so that they receive all legal benefits.
