Labour Minister Delivers Labour Ambassadors to Protect the Interest of Workers While Monitoring Situation that Affects Thai Workers Abroad

          The Labour Minister delivered policies and operational guidelines to the Minister Counselors/Consulates (on labour) from Labour Offices abroad for the 2020 annual budget. He emphasized that diplomatic workers must care for Thai workers abroad to receive full benefits and monitor situations that affect Thai workers.

          On January 8, 2020, at 13.30 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul presided over the delivery of policies and guidelines for Minister Counselors/Consulates (on labour) from Labour Offices abroad for the 2020 annual budget. The meeting took place at the Morakot Room, The Emerald Hotel, Bangkok. The Labour Minister said that the role and mission of Labour Offices abroad at present must promote skilled workers to have increased opportunities for employment and maintain a balanced Thai labour market abroad in each position and professional field. Therefore, Thai Labour Offices abroad are the central coordination point of the Ministry of Labour and is a source of information on labour situations in foreign countries. For guidelines on the implementation of the mission framework of Labour Offices abroad, the Labour Minister asked to focus on the following 5 areas: Protection of Thai workers abroad to receive all benefits following employment contracts and to not be exploited. To develop the potential of Thai workers abroad to have knowledge, skills, and transfer skills of higher technology. To create a good quality of life for Thai workers abroad, prevent drug problems, and promote savings for workers. Maintain and expand the Thai labour market; analyze trends in demand for Thai workers from relevant internal and external factors, including the study, analysis, and monitoring situations that affect Thai labour. To prepare labour and economic data; monitor the situation of the country in-depth by allowing proactive operations. To expand the network of labour volunteers and use technology to execute missions together with the embassy in an integrated manner.

          M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul added that by 2020, the Ministry of Labour aims to deploy 100,000 Thai workers overseas, especially in countries with high potential, so that workers have the opportunity to develop skills and bring knowledge back to build and enhance the country’s potential. The top 4 countries that are popular are Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, and Israel. In addition, he asked participants to be aware of the importance of continuous self-development, to keep up with the changing situations and technology, as well as setting clear goals and outcomes for the implementation of various project plans to achieve tangible results as planned. At the same time, he said participants must find ways to reform within the office, thinking and doing together, using full knowledge and ability with creative methods to innovate in various fields to drive the Ministry of Labour’s policy in looking after Thai workers abroad to have dignity and have a good quality of life.
