Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin joined the National Committee Meeting to prepare for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, which Thailand will host in 2022.
On January 18, 2021, at 13.30 hours, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin joined the National Committee Meeting to prepare for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and related meetings in which Thailand will host in 2022. This meeting was no. 1/2021, which took place through teleconference (ZOOM application). Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha chaired the meeting, which took place at the Prasong Rananant meeting room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour. The meeting informed the policy on the preparation and actions for Thailand as host of APEC 2022, the Prime Minister’s order on appointing a National Committee to prepare for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and related meetings which Thailand will host in 2022, the order of the National Committee on the appointment of relevant subcommittees and a summary on Thailand’s preparation to host the APEC meeting. In this regard, the meeting had matters for consideration, including seeking approval for the guidelines and time frame for arranging National Committee meetings and relevant subcommittee. The meeting sought approval on Thailand’s preparation plans as host in 2022 and assigning missions to each subcommittee, namely the Subcommittee on Substances, the Subcommittee on Ceremonies and Administrations, the Subcommittee on Security and Traffic, and the Public Relations Subcommittee.
APEC is a framework for economic cooperation between the Asia-Pacific region. It was established in 1989 with members of 21 economic zones in the Asia-Pacific region, such as Australia, Canada, USA, Chile, Peru, China, Taiwan, Japan, Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. It has a common goal of enabling trade and investment liberalization in the Asia-Pacific region. APEC has operating mechanisms from APEC Leadership to APEC Ministers in each branch, Senior APEC Officers, committees, and working groups. The Human Resource Development Working Group is one of the APEC working groups established in 1990 to promote the people’s well-being through economic growth and national development. This working group covers issues of education, labour, social protection, and performance enhancement through 3 networks: the capacity-building network with the Ministry of Industry as the main coordinator, the education network with the Ministry of Education as the main coordinator, and labour networks and social protection with the Ministry of Labour as the main coordinator.
