MOL Pays Compensation to Families of the Decreased from the Boat Capsize in Surat Thani of Over 3.8M Baht

          The Permanent Secretary of Labor reported that the Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office has paid compensation benefits to the relatives of the three workers who died from the boat capsize in Surat Thani. The total value is over 3.8 million Baht, while the authorities are in the process of searching for the other 2 missing people.

          Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol reported the progress in providing relief to employees injured and killed in the incident of Racha Ferry 4 capsize, where a chartered garbage truck crashed into the ferry in Surat Thani on the night of August 1. The Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office’s Secretariat Mr. Tosapol Kritawongwiman, ordered Surat Thani Social Security Officer Mrs. Marasri Chaisrangsee, Surat Thani Social Security Officer from Koh Samui Branch Mrs. Tharathip Thanuithong to visit the area to verify the information and continue to provide assistance to the affected insured persons. Most recently, they are in the process of searching for two more missing persons, one of which is an insured person in the social security system, and one is not an insured person.

          As for the assistance until now, the Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office has carried out assistance to insurers who have been affected and has paid compensation benefits to the relatives of the three deceased persons. For the first person, Mr. Thewin Surat, a 44-year-old ship worker, the relatives received compensation consisting of 40,000 Baht for the funeral fee, compensation in case of death amounting to 1,680,000 Baht, the old-age pension fund of 164,174.46 Baht, totaling 1,884,174.46 Baht. For the second person Mr. Sirawut Thongboonyang, a mechanic whose body was discovered at 15.00 hours on August 3, the relatives took his body to perform religious rites in his home province of Nakhon Si Thammarat. The relatives will receive compensation consisting of 40,000 Baht for funeral arrangements, 972,888 Baht in compensation for death and 59,860 Baht in old-age pension funds, totaling 1,072,748 Baht. The third was Mrs. Napatlada Janhan, a merchandiser, whose body was discovered at 10.00 hours on August 7.  The relatives took her body to perform religious rites. The relatives will receive compensation consisting of 40,000 Baht for funeral arrangements, 819,000 Baht in compensation for death and 40,811 Baht in old-age pension funds, totaling 899,811 Baht. For the three persons, the Social Security Office has paid a total of 3,856,733.46 Baht in compensation. The Surat Thani Provincial Social Security Office will continue to coordinate with relatives on the compensation benefits.
