Thai workers warned of Brunei Tobacco Tax

    The Government of Brunei currently puts the duty on tobacco in place. Cigarettes bringing into the country by travelers will be subject to declare and tax at the following rates:
    1 stick of cigarette is subject to $0.25 tax, equivalent to 5-6 Bath.
    1 packet of 20 cigarettes is subject to $5 tax, equivalent to 115-138 Bath.
    1 box of cigarettes (10 packets) is subject to $50 tax, equivalent to 1,150-1,380 Bath.
    Cigarette unpacked from a box or a packet is subject to $77 tax, equivalent to 1,761 Bath.

    The Office of Labour Affairs in Brunei the Royal Thai Embassy would like to inform and warn Thai workers and Thai people who are entering Brunei (by land, water, or air) to prepare to pay tax for tobacco to the Customs. Smoking in public places such as school, hospital, movie theater, and petrol station is also prohibited. Smoking is only allowed in some designated areas where sign is indicated. Heavy fines will be imposed on those who fail to act according to the laws. 
     The Royal Thai Embassy in Brunei, the Office of Labour Affairs in Brunei and Thai People Association organize exercises at the Royal Thai Embassy every Sunday 3 p.m. Thai people & workers are invited to join. Such an activity is hold to campaign Thai people in Brunei to pay attention to their health by taking more exercise, playing sports, and smoking less or quite smoking.
