Labour Minister Leads Tripartite Representatives to Attend the 112th ILC in Geneva, Switzerland

     On June 11, 2024, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, himself, the Ministry of Labour’s executives, and representatives from the government, including employer and employee representatives, will travel to Geneva, in Switzerland, from June 11 – to 15, 2024, to participate in the 112th Session of the International Labour Conference. Thailand has been a founding member of the organization since 1919. In this meeting, the Ministry of Labour will be led by the Labour Minister. There is an agenda to meet with the International Labour Organization’s Director-General, Mr. Gilbert F. Houngbo, to discuss government matters regarding labour as well.      The main agenda for this year’s meeting includes the Ministry of Labour’s submission to ratify Convention No. 144 on Tripartite Consultation (International Labour Standards), 1976, for Thailand, which is considered to be an expression of Thailand’s intention to emphasize the transparency of the tripartite consultations that Thailand has always carried out, which drives the issue of social justice. Labour Minister Reveals JOB EXPO THAILAND 2024 on June 28-30 at Queen Sirikit Convention Hall in Collaboration with the Private Sector, Serving Over 700,000 Job Positions Nationwide and Overseas to Promote Employment Among Thai Workers

Permanent Secretary of Labour Reports Labour Situation for April 2024; Unemployed Registered Persons Decrease, Employment in the Service Improves

     On June 6, 2024, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, spoke about the overall labour situation based on the data of April 2024 by the Labour Economics Division under the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour. Currently, 11,857,864 workers are insured under the social security system. Insured persons under Section 33 increased by 1.70 percent compared to the same month of 2023, when there were 11,659,514 people, but a decrease of 0.21 percent compared to March 2024, when there were 11,882,607 people.      Mr. Pairoj added that in Thailand’s unemployment situation, 228,840 unemployed people were registered in the social security system in April 2024. Compared to 2023, this was an increase of 0.93 percent, and compared to March 2024, an increase of 4.74 percent. The unemployment rate in the social security system in April 2024 was 1.89 percent.    On June 4, 2024, at 13.30 hours, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, attended the press conference to commence the Ignite Tourism Thailand: TAT Skill Factory event, organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Ministry of Labor and the Federation of Thai Industries. Labour Minister Gives Words of Encouragement to 126 Thai Workers Traveling to Work in Taiwan and Japan

            On May 24, 2024, at 09.00 hours, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, presided over an address to 126 Thai workers who will travel to work in Taiwan and Japan. The Secretariat to the Labour Minister, Mr. Aree Krainara, from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat’s Office, Mr. Phuchong Worasri, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Pairoj Chotikasathien, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives joined the occasion at the Ministry of Labour’s meeting room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour.           The Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, revealed that the Ministry of Labour has set a goal of sending 100,000 Thai workers to work abroad by 2024, encouraging Thai workers to have a stable income and improve their quality of life. Labour Minister Expresses Condolences for the Two Workers Who Died in Israel and Accelerated Relief and Compensation from the Fund; the Permanent Secretary Assigns Five Provincial Labour Units to Visit the Families

          On May 17, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, spoke about the death of two Thai workers who were held hostage in Israel. The Labour Minister expressed his condolences to the families of the Thai workers who lost their lives in this event. He received a report from the Minister Counselor (on Labour) at the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv, Mr. Kitthana Srisuriya, that the Israeli government considered reliable circumstantial evidence and concluded that two Thai workers who were taken hostage had died. The workers are Mr. Sonthaya Akrasri and Mr. Suthisak Rintalak, who were on the list of hostages who had not yet been released. Eight people have died since October 2023. Labour Minister Listens to All Parties and Discussions with the FTI, Chamber of Commerce, SMEs, and Businesses on Increasing the 400 Baht Minimum Wage

          On May 13, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, received a letter from a worker group led by the President of the State Enterprises Workers’ Relations Confederation (SERC), Mr. Sawit Kaewwan, and Leader, Mr. Manop Kuerat, who brought over 150 members to submit a letter to the Labour Minister and carried out activities to show their stance and support for the equalization of the minimum wage nationwide, as announced by the Labour Minister. Labour Minister Supports “Sufficiency Economy” to Create a Good Workforce, to Sustainably Reduce Expenses and Increase Income for Employees

          The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, has pushed forward the Good-Breed Labour Project according to the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy. The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare has been assigned to encourage employers to support the budget, including plant/animal species or empty land for employees to use for cultivation and raising animals, to use the produce for consumption, sharing among households, and selling the remainder to increase income for their family. It is also a guideline for developing additional careers for employees who are entering retirement age. Household Workers Celebrate as Labour Minister Successfully Pushes Ministerial Regulations into Effect on April 30, Allowing 98 Days of Maternity Leave

            The Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, reported that the Ministry of Labour realizes the importance of informal workers, who are an important force driving the country’s economy and society. They are the largest group of workers, with over 20 million people. The focus is to ensure they have access to basic rights to work and have social security principles, ensuring work safety and a better quality of life. This is especially relevant to employees who do housework, where the legal protection is still not comprehensive and is not consistent with the economic conditions of a changing society.
