Labour Minister Signs Book of Condolence on Passing of Pope Francis, Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church

On April 24, 2025, at 11.00 hours, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, signed the book of condolence on the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, the Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church, who passed away on April 21, 2025. The signing was in tribute to the Pope, the spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church and the Vatican City State. Mr. Sakdinart Sonthisakyotin, Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour, along with senior executives of the Ministry of Labour, also took part in the signing ceremony held at the Apostolic Nunciature to Thailand, located in the Sathorn district of Bangkok.

Mr. Seng Sakda, Permanent Secretary of Labour and Vocational Training of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the meeting room of Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra Hotel, Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia. The meeting was held to prepare for the signing of two labour-related outcome documents: (1) Memorandum of Understanding on Labour Cooperation between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Kingdom of Cambodia, and (2) Agreement on Employment between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Kingdom of Cambodia. Labour Minister Praises Surat Thani’s Quality Workforce: Invites Employers Nationwide to Join the Contest Until May 16

Mr. Phumipat Mueanchan, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, revealed that from a field visit to businesses in Surat Thani Province, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, praised Haadthip Public Company Limited, the Punpin Factory, for being a model of a company that takes quality care of the workforce. The company emphasizes “people” as the heart of the organization. It is free of illegal labour, supports the development of vocational skills, and also promotes workers’ welfare according to the principles of the sufficiency economy by aligning to the guidelines of the Ministry of Labour’s Good Labour Project, encouraging employees to have additional income, helps reduce expenses, and creates stability in daily life from growing vegetables, growing rice, and raising fish in the factory area. On March 21, 2025, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, welcomed the Senate’s Special Committee on the Protection and Honour of the Monarchy on the occasion of meeting to discuss two important issues: The proposal on the cooperation in the “Thai Workers Unite in Loyalty” project to promote the role of the Thai worker’s movement in protecting and honouring the institution and being a model for participation in volunteer activities at the national level. The presentation of the “Youth Volunteer Ambassadors” and “Road Safety Volunteer Leaders” projects, especially the collaboration with early childhood centers in Sirindhorn Rajavidyalaya University campuses under royal patronage nationwide, to promote learning and instill good awareness from a young age. Labour Minister Joins Forces with Public and Private Sectors: Signs MOU to Support Employment for the Disabled to Increase Opportunities and Create Stable Careers

On March 6, 2025, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, chaired the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in promoting employment for the disabled, together with 21 leading establishments to provide opportunities for the disabled to have jobs, income, and live their lives with pride. The signing was attended by executives from the Thailand Association of the Blind and executives from 21 establishments. Labour Minister Assigns “Trai Thep Phithak” to Join Forces with Security Agencies in Crack Down on Illegal Foreigners Taking Jobs Reserved for Thais in MBK; 22 Found. Reiterates Legal Action with No Exception

On February 21, 2025, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, assigned Mr. Pichet Thongphan, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, to lead the special task force “Trai Thep Phithak” to inspect the work of illegal foreign workers and human trafficking at MBK. Twenty-two foreign workers were found in jobs reserved for Thais, 20 of whom were from Myanmar, one from Syria, and one from India. This search was an integrated collaboration between the Office of the Permanent Secretary of Labour, the Department of Employment, and the Royal Thai Police, with Pathum Wan Police Station supporting the mission. The officers took the foreign workers to Pathum Wan Police Station for legal proceedings. On January 30, 2025, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, spoke about the progress in the case of a technical trainee who died in Japan and expressed his deepest condolences to the deceased’s family. Regarding assistance in terms of legal entitlements to be received by the beneficiaries, the Permanent Secretary of Labour was assigned to follow up on the progress of the matter and coordinate to proceed according to the family’s wishes to send the ashes back to Thailand. Mr. Phiphat continued that he received a report from the Minister Counselor (on Labour) from the Labour Office in Japan, which conducted the investigation and found that the deceased Thai worker, Mr. Kanapat Promhung, was a Japanese technical trainee who disappeared. Labour Minister Mourns Thais Who Died in Korean Plane Runway Crash: Permanent Secretary Instructs 5 Labour Leaders to Visit Relatives and Take Care of Social Security Benefits

            Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, expressed his condolences for the incident where Jeju Airlines flight 7C 2216, traveling from Bangkok to Jeollanam-do, Republic of Korea, had an accident while landing. The plane’s wheels did not deploy, causing the plane to skid along the runway and catch fire. The incident occurred yesterday morning at approximately 09.07 hours local time. On the Ministry of Labour’s part, the Labour Minister received a report from Ms. Sirirat Srichat, Assistant Labour Attaché at the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The report said that the airline was carrying 181 passengers, 175 of whom were passengers and 6 crew members. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that there were 179 fatalities, of which 2 were Thai passengers.           On November 29, 2024, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labor, disclosed details following the Cabinet meeting held at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, Chiang Mai Province. The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Labor, including Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, Permanent Secretary; Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, Director-General of the Department of Employment; Mr. Pichet Thongpan, Inspector-General; and Mr. Sakdinat Sonthisakdiyothin, Assistant Permanent Secretary. On November 21, 2024, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labor, along with Mr. Boonsong Tapchaiyut, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labor; Ms. Marasri Jairangsee, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office; the Social Security Board (14th group); advisors; and relevant executives and officials from the Ministry of Labor and the Social Security Office, held discussions with executives of the e-Estonian Briefing Centre in Tallinn, Estonia. The discussions focused on modern data integration in labor, digital innovation, and the study of e-voting systems to improve accessibility for citizens. Mr. Phiphat stated that the presentation highlighted Estonia’s advancements and reforms in its digital systems, particularly its ability to manage extensive data networks (X-Road), linking over 100,000 databases and enabling seamless data exchange. Estonia’s use of electronic cards and initiatives to increase birth rates and address labor shortages through universal employment on online platforms were also emphasized. The Labour Minister Urgently Hires People to Help Flooded Areas; Instructs the Five Labour Leaders to Work With All Units to Alleviate People’s Suffering

            The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, reported that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, has instructed the heads of the Ministry of Labour’s departments or the five labour leaders, labor volunteers, and graduates in the flood-affected areas to inspect and integrate with all agencies, both civilian, military, and local, to help employees and the affected people, to provide them with necessities for living. He also urged them to help expedite the Ministry of Labour’s urgent employment projects, for which agencies have already received budgets for areas where the situation has begun to improve.
