On January 24, 2025, at 09.00 hours, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, showed concern for workers being laid off and urged agencies under the Ministry of Labour to support affected workers to enable them to continue their livelihood after being laid off and to monitor the mass layoffs of companies, so that if layoffs occur, they can provide timely assistance and compensation to employees. The Labour Minister assigned Mr. Aree Krainara, the Secretariat to the Labour Minister, to present welfare compensation from the Employee Welfare Fund and unemployment benefits to employees of Yarnapund Company Limited (Public Company).             On December 23, 2024, at 09.30 hours, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, chaired the Artificial Intelligence Literacy for Government Officers public relations event and delivered a keynote speech on “Transforming the Ministry of Labour into the AI Era”. The project aims to lay a foundation of knowledge about AI, build skills in using AI tools, and promote the application of AI among the Ministry of Labour’s personnel. Workers Celebrate: Wage Committee Approves 400 Baht Minimum Wage in 4 Provinces and 1 District Effective January 1, 2025

On December 23, 2024, at 18.30 hours, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, gave a report after the 22nd Wage Committee Meeting No. 11/2024. The meeting had government representatives, employer representatives, employee representatives, and relevant officials attend the Prasong Rananant Meeting Room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour Building. He said that the Wage Committee meeting considered and approved the increase in the minimum wage by 7 to 55 Baht per day (an average of 2.9 percent), divided into 17 rates, which were mainly considered based on the cost of living and economic structure, with the highest rate being 400 Baht per day and the lowest rate being 337 Baht per day, as follows: 1. The minimum wage rate is adjusted to 400 Baht per day in 4 provinces and 1 district, including Phuket, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong and Koh Samui District, Surat Thani Province. 2. Minister of Labor Proposes Two Government Representatives for Wage Committee and Relief Measures for Flood Victims to Resume Their Occupations

          On November 29, 2024, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labor, disclosed details following the Cabinet meeting held at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, Chiang Mai Province. The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Labor, including Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, Permanent Secretary; Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, Director-General of the Department of Employment; Mr. Pichet Thongpan, Inspector-General; and Mr. Sakdinat Sonthisakdiyothin, Assistant Permanent Secretary. Before the meeting, the Minister and his team visited booths showcasing occupational group products.           During the meeting, the Ministry of Labor proposed three items for acknowledgment. First, Commander Saroj Khomkhai, Director-General of the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare, and Mr. Akarut Sontayanon were appointed government representatives to the 22nd Wage Committee, filling vacant positions. Minister of Labor Aims to Reform Labor in the Digital Era, Expanding Platform Employment and Ensuring Access to Social Security through Efficient Technology

On November 21, 2024, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labor, along with Mr. Boonsong Tapchaiyut, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labor; Ms. Marasri Jairangsee, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office; the Social Security Board (14th group); advisors; and relevant executives and officials from the Ministry of Labor and the Social Security Office, held discussions with executives of the e-Estonian Briefing Centre in Tallinn, Estonia. The discussions focused on modern data integration in labor, digital innovation, and the study of e-voting systems to improve accessibility for citizens. Mr. Phiphat stated that the presentation highlighted Estonia’s advancements and reforms in its digital systems, particularly its ability to manage extensive data networks (X-Road), linking over 100,000 databases and enabling seamless data exchange. Estonia’s use of electronic cards and initiatives to increase birth rates and address labor shortages through universal employment on online platforms were also emphasized. On October 7, 2024, the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, chaired the opening ceremony of the Thai People’s Empowerment Festival to Upskill and Reskill and Develop Future Labour Skills, targeting over 523,904 people in the Northeast, hoping to increase the employment rate in the region and to connect to both domestic and international markets. MOL Cautions Against Travel to Israel and Lebanon for Work Temporarily and Prepares to Send More Thai Workers to South Korea

            The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson, Mr. Phumiphat Mueanchan, said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, received a report from the Department of Employment, Labour Section, Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv and the Labor Office in Saudi Arabia regarding the tense situation in Israel and Lebanon; it reported a possibility that the situation might expand and intensify from the incident on July 31, 2024 in Iran. The Ministry of Labour has assessed the situation and would like to inform Thai workers to temporarily postpone traveling to work in Israel and Lebanon by all means until further notice.             Sending Thai workers to work abroad is an important policy of the Ministry of Labour, which aims to help drive the economy. This year, the target is set at 100,000 people. As of the end of July, 77,918 Thai workers have been sent abroad, accounting for 77.92 percent of the target.
