On September 7, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, reported that the Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwam, who supervises the Ministry of Labour, emphasize the equality in workers’ basic rights in Thailand, whereby Thai and foreign workers must be treated equally. The workforce is a key engine driving the country’s economic and social development. The Ministry of Labour’s Department of Employment has established the initial recruitment and employment centers for migrant workers from Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia in three locations, including Tak, Sa Kaeo, and Nong Khai Provinces. The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, spoke about the news in online media on August 26 that Mr. Prasit Sribunchan and Mr. Kobchokcheep Phosorn, Deputy Chairpersons of the Samran Subdistrict Administrative Council, Samchai District, Kalasin Province, who filed a complaint with the Kalasin Provincial Damrongtham Center, to help track down Mr. Prasit’s sister, Ms. Apinya Sribunchan, 41, back to Thailand. An agent recruited her to work in Thai massage in Dubai on July 20, 2022. She traveled with three female friends from nearby areas and eight from other provinces. She has been uncontactable for over 15 days, and there is fear that she was deceived into prostitution and unsafe. For this case, the Labour Minister received a report from Mrs. Plida Ruamkham, Ambassador Counselor (on Labour) of the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi, that Ms. Apinya traveled on a tourist visa and went to work because she believed the agency that persuaded her to work in Thai massage. The Wage Committee’s resolution for the 2022 minimum wage adjustment is divided into nine rates. The highest are Chonburi, Rayong, and Phuket, which increased to 354 Baht. The lowest are Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, Nan, and Udon Thani, which increased to 328 Baht. Bangkok and the surrounding provinces are at 353 baht. The Ministry of Labour summarized the results for the proposal to the Cabinet to consider as soon as possible, to come into effect on October 1, 2022. On July 26, 2022, Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Samat Pattamasukon, chaired the working group meeting to consider the reports on the implementation of the International Labour Organization Conventions No. 1/2022 and No. 2/2022 to consider the report on implementation of Convention No. 112 on Employment Policy, 1964 and the report on the implementation of Convention No. 159 on Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Disabled Persons), 1983. The Ministry of Labour’s representatives and related agencies attended the meeting at the Prasong Ranant Meeting Room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour. As a member country of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Thailand has a mission to regularly prepare reports on the ratification of international conventions. In 2022, Thailand has to submit two reports on the implementation of the International Labour Organization Conventions outlined above, which is under the responsibility of the Office of the Permanent Secretary of Labour. On July 21, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned the Labour Minister’s Advisor, Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, the Social Security Office’s Inspector-General Ms. Pannika Luangsuri, and heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Samut Prakan Province to visit the area to give compensation to the family of insured persons who died while checking the electrical system in the sewage manhole at a condominium in the Bangna area. The occasion took place at the Dan Samrong Temple, Mueang Samut Prakan District, Samut Prakan Province. Mr. Suchart said that the employees in the incident were building technicians of Bangkok Management Realty Co., Ltd., who lost consciousness while checking the electrical system in the sewage manhole under the condominium.
