Deputy Labour Minister Deploys “Labour SIMS” to Promote Digital Opportunities for Vulnerable Groups

Content Description

The Deputy Labour Minister joined hands with Huawei to support Labour SIM cards to train people with disabilities and vulnerable groups, create equality and provide opportunities to enhance digital skills, promoting employment and sustainable income.

On June 21, 2021, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat presided over the handover ceremony of “Labour SIM” under the “Online Skill Development SIM Card” project to help people with disabilities and vulnerable groups affected by the Covid-19 situation. In this project, Huawei Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd. supports SIM cards for online skill development. Within the cooperation on skill development in digital technology, 500 SIMs are given to those affected by the Covid-19 situation, especially people with disabilities and vulnerable groups, providing them an opportunity to develop their skills online with a high-speed internet network.

Prof. Narumon said that many workers had been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, requiring them to adjust to the new normal and have the skills they need for the future. Persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups are regarded as a population affected no less than other groups of workers. Therefore, Huawei Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd. supported the purchase of 500 SIM cards produced by the National Telecommunications PCL for the Department of Skill Development, together with the Council of Persons with Disabilities of Thailand to distribute to workers with disabilities and vulnerable groups for use in training. The Department of Skill Development has developed an online training course to develop skills for workers. There are over 50 courses for people with disabilities and vulnerable groups. The SIM card can be conveniently used for training via the Internet. Today, representatives of people with disabilities and the elderly participated in receiving a Labour SIM card.

The Deputy Labour Minister said that the “Labour SIM” project run by the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development wants interested workers to attend online training. The SIM provides high-speed Internet for training. It is a monthly prepaid internet SIM card from the NT Mobile network and has a speed of up to 4 Mbps without reducing the speed. Therefore, those interested in online training but do not have internet access will have more options and can make decisions about attending training faster. Or, people who use the Internet but have problems with the speed level can also request to use this Labour SIM.

“Today, I would like to thank Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. for supporting the Labour SIM as training material to deliver good opportunities for people with disabilities and vulnerable groups. The initiative supports skill development online to gain knowledge and skills in a career leading to employment in an economic and social era that uses digital technology. Therefore, we would like to thank all parties involved in cooperating. This will help drive various missions smoothly, and we can overcome the situations in crisis together,” concluded the Deputy Labour Minister.
