Deputy Labour Minister Gives Over 30M Baht in Unemployment Benefits to Body Fashion Employees Terminated from Covid-19

          Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan gave unemployment benefits to employees of Body Fashion (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Nakhon Sawan branch. The company laid off employees due to business closure from the effects of Covid-19. Remedies were provided to 733 people, valued at over 30 million Baht.
          On January 28, 2021, at 09.30 hours, at the reception room 1, Command Building 1, Government Houses, Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan presided over the delivery of unemployment benefits to employee representatives of Body Fashion (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Nakhon Sawan branch. The employees were laid off because the business shut down from Covid-19 impacts. Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin gave a report.
          Advisor to the Labour Minister Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, the Labour Minister’s Secretariat Mr. Suthep Chitvong, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives also joined the occasion. The Deputy Prime Minister said that the Ministry of Labour helps workers who have been laid off to access the benefits they deserve to alleviate their troubles. This is especially during the Covid-19 situation. Body Fashion employees are not the only beneficiaries, but over 15,000 employees will receive benefits, totaling over 840 million Baht. The support is in line with the government’s policy on “we will not leave anyone behind.” The Ministry of Labour’s support on this occasion is admirable. The Labour Minister said that Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the Ministry of Labour under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, cares for employees and insured persons suffering from unemployment due to business closures from the Covid-19 impact. The Ministry of Labour has been instructed to urgently help affected insured persons. Body Fashion (Thailand) Co., Ltd. In Nakhon Sawan branch laid off 733 employees on August 1, 2020. The employer announced the termination of employment due to the employee’s offense. As a result, this group of employees did not receive unemployment benefits from the Social Security Office because they did not meet the payment terms and conditions prescribed by law. The case is now in process with the Ministry of Labour. The Social Security Office has discussed the issue with the Council of State and revised the criteria for considering compensation benefits in unemployment. The resignation cause provided by the insured persons and the employer does not match. Thus, the matter is in the court’s process.

          Mr. Suchart continued that to not delay the payment of compensation benefits to insured persons; the Social Security Office announced a notification regarding the Criteria for Considering Unemployment Compensation B.E. 2561, the Social Security Office’s regulations on the Application for Compensation Benefits (No. 3) B.E. 2654 and guidelines for unemployment benefits if the cause of the employment provided by the insured person and the employer does not match. From such actions, the Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office has assessed the unemployment benefits to 733 employees of Body Fashion (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Nakhon Sawan branch, who will collectively receive unemployment benefits valued at 30,785,973.65 Baht. For today, five employee representatives received the compensation benefits, namely 1) Mrs. Rapeeporn Wanseuchuea, totaling 70,000 Baht. 2) Ms. Namfon Chantawee, totaling 67,520 Baht. 3) Mrs. Wanni Phaphumpho, totaling 66,590 Baht. 4) Ms. Narumol Thahawong totaling 67,630 Baht and 5) Ms. Nilwan Phumi totaling 44,450 Baht. The employees will receive the said amount in their bank account today (January 28, 2021). As a result, employees of other companies across the country, totaling over 15,000 people, will be eligible to follow. The amount that will be received is approximately 840 million Baht.
