Deputy Labour Minister Urgently Helps Flood Victims in the South

Content Description

On December 5, 2020, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat reported that after hearing the news of the flooding in the south, in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, and Surat Thani provinces, the Ministry of Labour is very concerned about the people who are affected by the disaster. The Ministry of Labour has charged departments under its supervision, especially the Department of Skill Development located in the area, to arrange for staff to help people who have suffered. Initially, reports have come in from local agencies such as Surat Thani Province, whereby all five labour agencies have visited and provided support to workers in businesses that have suffered from the flood, including Lee Heng Product Food Co., Ltd., located in Moo 3, Tha Rong, Bana. The area has over 90 worker homes, housing over 200 employees. Other companies include YT Rubber Co., Ltd., located in Moo 1, Tha Rong, Phunphin, and Asian Sea Cold Storage Company Food PCL, located in Moo 4, Tha Rong, Phunphin, Surat Thani. At present, the rain has stopped, and the amount of water will gradually decrease, but there may be some areas receiving water flowing from Nakhon Si Thammarat.

The Deputy Labour Minister further said that reports were received from the Phatthalung Office of Skill Development, which has planned to explore the damage to understand the villagers’ need for help after the water subsides. They are preparing a plan to use help in phases two and three, namely, home electrical equipment repair services for those damaged by the flood, and exploring the need for professional training. Nakhon Si Thammarat has also organized for officials to monitor the flood closely. The Nakhon Si Thammarat Institute of Skill Development 22 has water flowing into the area, whereby the staff has helped the people move things and machines to dry levels. Recently, water levels have begun to drop, and no damage has been reported.

“Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha has a lot of concern for the people. He has ordered each of the ministers to assist according to their missions, to alleviate the people’s suffering. Therefore, we would like to encourage all officials to perform their duties to help people, making sure to take care of themselves to be safe. On December 9, I will visit Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani provinces to encourage and help the flood victims,” concluded the Deputy Labour Minister.
