Content Description

On October 7, 2021, the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Director-General, Mr. Niyom Songkaew, spoke about Brilliant Alliance Thai Global Co., Ltd. employees and representatives of the Triumph International Labour Union of Thailand, a women’s undergarment manufacturer in Samut Prakan province. They were terminated due to business closure and were not compensated. The workers gathered at the Government Houses to demand that the government use the central budget to pay compensation to the laid-off workers and filed a letter requesting a review of the employee benefits payment through Suthep U-On, Chairman of the Labour Commissioner, House of Representatives, to present to the Prime Minister. In this matter, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin instructed the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare to pay compensation from Employee Welfare Fund from April 28 to August 11, 2021, to 1,231 employees, totaling 22,321,856 Baht. The compensation payment also includes unemployment insurance in the amount of 65,540,768 Baht. Additionally, the Department of Employment organized 1,834 vacancies.

Mr. Niyom continued that the government, under the Prime Minister, is concerned about all workers. The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, has been instructed to provide urgent assistance. The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare shall provide compensation from the Employee Welfare Fund as soon as possible. Today, employees have received such benefits. As for social security’s unemployment insurance, Mr. Suchart proceeded to amend the rules to allow social security payments to be paid before the court proceedings are over. Originally, to pay unemployment insurance to workers in the event of a lawsuit in court, the court process had to be completed. As for the issue of the central reserve budget issue paid to the employee first, the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare has made a letter to the Bureau of Budget, which is in response. As for the prosecution against employers, the Criminal Court has already issued arrest warrants to both employers.

“I assure you that Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin has taken full care of this group of workers from the beginning, as he gives importance to solving the problems of the workers,” concluded Mr. Niyom.
