            Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul gave a speech after chairing the commencement of the first organizing committee’s meeting for the 12th ASEAN Skills Competition at the Dusit Thani Hua Hin Hotel in Cha-am, Phetchaburi. In his speech he said that Thailand would host the 12th ASEAN Skills Competition from 26 August to 4 September 2018 at the Impact Arena, Exhibition and Convention Center in Muang Thong Thani to which the Department of Skills Development had arranged a meeting for the organizing committee to discuss preparation plans. He explained that today was the first committee meeting where a total of 40 representatives from the 10 ASEAN nations attended. The meeting discussed the event strategy and measures to improve the different competing categories; in February 2018, the staff at the technical level will meet again.

            The Labour Minister said that the ASEAN Skills Competition would continue motivate youths of member nations to undertake self-development initiatives to support professional and structural changes in the population, in addition to preparing for the future of work; this especially applies to the advanced technological sector. General Sirichai explained that prepared youths would be able to adjust to surrounding conditions and boost national competitiveness. The 12th ASEAN Skills Competition will be separated into 6 categories including 1) manufacturing technology 2) communication technology 3) fashion and creative 4) transportation and logistics 5) construction and building technology and 6) personal and societal services.
