“Gen. Adul” reveals human rights activist The European Council praises the management of Thai foreign workers.

          On July 18, 2018, H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo, Minister of Labor welcomed Mr. Pier Antonio Panzeri, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Human Rights and the members of the European Council at the Reception Room of the 6th Floor, Ministry of Labor. On the occasion of the visit to pay homage to and discuss the issue of labor rights in Thailand. Management of foreign workers Promotion of Thai labor standards Progress in addressing labor issues in the fisheries sector and cooperation with the European Union.

 

            Gen. Adul said as a result of this discussion Mr. Pier Antonio Panzeri, Chair of the Human Rights Subcommittee and member of the European Council, praised the Thai workforce management at the Ministry of Labor and related agencies for their integration of labor unions. Three illegal immigrants are eligible for protection under the Thai law. Of the 1.3 million target, 1.18 million have been completed 90 percent to ensure that all migrant workers who work in Thailand receive equal legal rights under the law without discrimination. The Minister of Labor has also registered the ratification of the Protocol of Accession No. 29 of the 1930 Worker’s Supplementary Protocol, dated 4 June 2018, to Mr. Guy Ryder, ILO Director-General and is currently considering ratification. Convention No. 188, Working in the Fisheries Sector, 2007, shows that Thailand is committed to promoting Thai labor standards. It has expanded its cooperation with employers in Thai Labor Standardization (TLS 8001-2010) and Good Labor Practice (GLP) to ensure quality of life for employees in the workplace and according to international standards.
           “The discussions will tighten the relationship between the Thai government and the European Council. In particular, many important policy co-operation initiatives, such as the Technical Collaboration in Labor to increase labor protection in line with human rights principles and promote respect for human rights. This will lead to the avoidance and resolution of human trafficking in Thailand, ” Gen. Adul said in the end.
