Labour Minister Assigns Advisor and Spokesperson to Support the Families of the Second Employee who Died From the Bridge Collapse

          On August 5, 2022, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, to visit the area to give compensation to the dependents of the insured person who died from an accident on the U-turn bridge, where a cement sheet fell on the construction worker of the Department of Highways in Rama 2 Road. The occasion took place at the Sai Temple, Soi Ekachai 23, Chom Thong District, Bangkok.
          Mrs. Thiwalrat said that the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister General Prwit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, were concerned about the incident at the U-turn bridge, where a cement sheet fell on construction workers at the work site on Rama 2 Road on July 31. The incident caused two fatalities and two injuries. The Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office was instructed to speed up the remedies process for the employees of the Department of Highways involved in the accident, ensuring the employees receive their legal entitlement urgently. Yesterday, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned her, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on Politics), and officials from the Bangkok Social Security Office Area 6 to visit the area to give compensation to the mother of Mr. Chan Chaothong, an employee of the Department of Highways who died, and to give compensation in case of illness to Mr. Chatchai Sirimart, an employee who was injured at the 3rd bridge construction and restoration point, Lat Lum Kaeo District, Pathum Thani Province. Today, they went to offer compensation to the relatives of Ms. Suwannee Rakthum, the second deceased employee from the incident. She is an insured person under Section 33 who died not due to performing work responsibilities. Her dependents will be entitled to benefits such as funeral expenses of 50,000 Baht, compensation in the event of death of 90,000 Baht, and an old-age pension in the case of death of 142,100.66 Baht totaling 282,100.66 Baht. Another person is Ms. Lakkhana Jongsirirotkul, who was injured, not due to performing work responsibilities. She will receive benefits from the Social Security Fund in case of illness.
          Mrs. Thiwalrat said that the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin gave his condolences to the relatives of the deceased. The Ministry of Labour is concerned about the incident. Therefore, employers and employees are requested to cooperate concerning safety at work to prevent losses caused by accidents or accidents at work. He also invited the people to apply as insured persons with the Social Security Office so that when an unexpected event like this occurs, the entitled beneficiaries will be assisted as an alternative form of social security for the family.
