Labour Minister Assigns SSO to Urgently Support Department of Highways Employee From Cement Sheet Fall in Rama II

          On August 4, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned the Labour Minister’s Advisor, Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, and heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Pathum Thani Province to visit the area to give compensation to the family of the insured persons who died from a U-turn overpass cement sheet falling onto a construction worker, an employee of the Department of Highways in the Rama 2 Road area, at the 3rd Bridge Construction and Reconstruction Center, Lat Lum Kaeo District, Pathum Thani Province.
          Mr. Suchart said that from the incident, the U-turn bridge beam in front of Vibharam Samut Sakhon Hospital, Rama 2 Road, closed for renovation, fell on top of a car on July 31, causing one death and one injury. Mr. Chatchai Sirimart was the person who was injured and was admitted to Samut Sakhon Hospital. His symptoms are improving, and the doctor has allowed him to return home. The employee will be entitled to actual medical expenses until the end of the treatment. They will also be entitled to compensation from the Social Security Office for treatment in a government hospital. They will receive compensation for taking time off work for medical reasons, according to the doctor’s order. As for the deceased, relatives have taken the body to make merit at their home in Ubon Ratchathani Province. The Social Security Office has coordinated with the employer and relatives to explain the benefits. Today, the Labour Minister’s Advisor and the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on Politics) visited the area with the Social Security Office staff to give compensation and benefits to Mr. Chan Chaothong’s mother. She is the dependent and the funeral manager. The deceased was an employee of the Department of Highways. The entitled dependent’s compensation includes funeral expenses of 50,000 Baht, compensation in case of death of 1,178,520 Baht, and accumulated old-age pension of 76,707.45 Baht (not including earnings). The total amount is 1,305,227.45 Baht. Compensation in case of illness will be provided to Mr. Chatchai Sirimart as per the medical expenses paid until the end of the treatment, which is 9,663 Baht. He will also receive compensation in case of taking time off from work as written in the medical certificate, for 1,146.10 Baht, totaling 10,809.10 Baht.
          The Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, are concerned about the incident. He has instructed the Ministry of Labour to take care of employees to build morale for the injured and the deceased’s family and ensure they receive their legal entitlements urgently,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
