Labour Minister Commences Mekong River Walk-and-Run Nakhon Phanom – Khammouane Marathon 2018

         On November 11, 2018, at 06.30 hours, Labour Minister H.E. Police General Adul Sangsingkeo chaired the commencement ceremony for the Mekong River Walk-and-Run Nakhon Phanom – Kammun Marathon 2018 at the 3rd Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge. He said that the Thai government under leadership of Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha has given importance to empowering sports to create social values and country development, whereby defining a 20-year national strategy that promotes the use of recreational activities as a tool to enhance the well-being of people, create a habit and love for sport and an athletic spirit. The strategy also looks at utilizing sports and recreation to develop the mind, quality of life and harmony of the people, promoting exercise as a way of life for all ages, including youths, the general public, special groups and the underprivileged.
 

 

 

Nakhon Phanom province, together with government agencies, private sectors, and the Sri Kod Boon Foundation, organized Mekong River Walk-and-Run Nakhon Phanom – Khammouane Marathon 2018 with the main objective to provide income to support charitable activities in care of the poor, children, the elderly and the disabled, including development of the quality of life for people on the border of the Mekong region. Participants joined from all over the country and neighboring countries, especially from Lao PDR to promote exercise among all age groups and people with disabilities which will lead to the good health of all people. The event was an activity that creates value for the country’s society as a whole and strengthens relationships with neighboring countries.
