On December 29, 2022, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the case of a fire at the Grand Diamond City Hotel and Casino in Poipet, Cambodia, in the middle of the night, at around 02.00 hours. The incident caused many deaths and injuries. As soon as he heard the news, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha expressed his sympathy for the incident and urged relevant agencies to speed up checking information on the injured and deceased people to provide support as soon as possible. On the Ministry of Labour’s part, he instructed the agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Sa Kaeo Province to send officers to the coordination center to assist victims together with the Sa Kaeo Provincial Administration to check the information of the injured and the deceased to urgently support with legal benefits.
Mr. Suchart continued that from the Provincial Social Security Officer, Ms. Phakaphan Phakanirin’s report, there were initially 13 deaths and eight missing people from the fire. One of the deceased is a Thai person, identified as Mr. Warawut Jirasak, who is insured under Section 40, option 2. His beneficiaries are entitled to funeral expenses of 25,000 Baht. There were 53 injured people, among whom were two insured persons under Section 33, one under Section 38, four under Section 39, and three under Section 40, totaling ten insured persons. The staff has been sent to the coordination center to assist and advise the relatives of victims in Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province. Initially, agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Sa Kaeo Province visited the area to support insured persons who were injured and receiving treatment in various hospitals, to follow-up, and provide assistance on benefits that the insured persons will receive in the future.
