Labour Minister Gives Encouragement to Narathiwat Labour Volunteers to Drive Labour Missions in Southern Provinces

                The Labour Minister met and gave words of encouragement to labour volunteers and graduates for sacrificing their personal and family time, taking labour services to help resolve problems and improve the quality of life for people in the area to have complete access to government services. He also delivered policies to heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Narathiwat.

                On January 20, 2020, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul chaired the ceremony to deliver policies to heads of government agencies, officers, labour graduates, including volunteer leaders of Narathiwat province. The occasion took place at the meeting room of the Narathiwat Skill Development Institute 25, located at 231 Moo 8, Lam Phu, Mueang Narathiwat, Narathiwat. Assistant to the Labour Minister Mr. Duangrit Benjathukul Chairungrueng, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, the Department of Employment’s Director-General Mr. Suchart Pornchaiwisetkunand, the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General Mr. Tawat Benchatikul, the Department of Employment’s Deputy Director-General Mrs. Thienrat Nawamawat, Narathiwat Provincial Labour Officer Mr. Boon-loi Khatilil, together heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Narathiwat also joined the occasion. Labour volunteers and graduates gave a welcoming. The Labour Minister said that all heads of government, labour volunteers, graduates, and staff are all critical in driving and developing the local and national economic foundation. Initiatives follow the national strategy and reform plans in the midst of changing technology, population structure, and environmental factors that all affect workers and the world of work. To move the workforce forward in line with the government policy and social change, the Labour Minister asked that the Narathiwat heads of government work with all relevant sectors and labour network partners, to focus on the development of skills to prepare for investment in the area. The efforts are also to meet business needs, support the Triangular Project for Stability, Prosperity, and Sustainability, and are in line with the development of a multi-skilled workforce. He said that all government officials are encouraged to promote employment that suit the potential of workers, allowing them to live sufficiently, and create a working environment that encourages workers to have energy and balance between work and life, called work-life Integration. The Labour Minister also spoke about raising awareness on workplace safety, especially in the areas of the three southern border provinces where security is emphasized. He asked the heads of the government to visit the regions, to meet and integrate to develop and upgrade skills in the production sector and the workplace, to extend innovation to increase the value of the work product.

                M.R. Chatumongol asked that the heads of government work with relevant sectors prepare for the aging society, in protecting and developing elderly workers, promoting employment and income for elderly workers, both in formal and informal employment. He also spoke about raising awareness in the job search channels through the Ministry of Labour’s employment service center, including vocational skills training for senior workers in appropriate formats, so that elderly workers can work according to their potential and can live their lives to the full of pride.

                “I would like to give you encouragement in work and believe that everyone will join forces to drive the organization to success in laying a solid foundation of labour, as an essential mechanism for national development. I, therefore, ask that all heads of government agencies, labour volunteers,  graduates, and all staff, cooperate with relevant sectors. The collaboration will help develop and upgrade skills, promote labour protection, create social security for workers, and raise awareness about workplace safety, in line with the national strategy and achieve the government’s vision in the “determination for Thailand to be a developed country in the 21st century”. The efforts are to embrace the principles of the sufficiency economy as a guideline for further civil service practices,” concluded M.R. Chatumongol.

                Narathiwat currently has a population of 806,716, with 515,822 people in the workforce. A total of 318,025 people is employed, and 13,677 are unemployed, equating to an unemployment rate of 2.65 percent. There are 681 seasonal workers, 132,415 informal workers, 154,033 older people, and 2,316 workers who are migrants of the three nationalities. There are 609 employers, 1,616 organizations with 52,417 people insured in the social security system, and 75 volunteers labour volunteers.
