On October 1, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin joined the delegation with Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan visited the area to listen to a briefing on the water situation in Nakhon Ratchasima Province and Lam Chiang Krai Basin and to provide water management policies. They visited people affected by the floods at the Balang Subdistrict Municipality, Non Thai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, donating 100 survival bags. The Deputy Prime Minister and delegation then visited the area around the construction site of the water control building in the lower Lam Chiang Krai Reservoir. Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Governor Mr. Kobchai Boonorana gave a welcoming and a summary of the situation. Mr. Suchart said that the Ministry of Labour, under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, is concerned about the workers and general public affected by this flood situation. Therefore, they visited the area to monitor the situation and = to encourage and give relief bags to alleviate the suffering of the people.
Mr. Suchart also spoke about the progress on the assistance of agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Nakhon Ratchasima. Currently, the Nakhon Ratchasima Skill Development Institute 5 has opened a kitchen to prepare food boxes and allow staff to distribute them to people in communities who cannot travel out, including taking damaged electrical and agricultural equipment from the floods for repair. Services also include checking the safety of the household wiring to reduce public expenditure. After the water recedes, the Provincial Employment Office will provide employment and occupational promotion services. The Provincial Labour Office will organize an urgent employment and skill development project, support compensation, and provide professional training materials for continuous income. The Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Office will provide advice on rights under the labour protection laws. Additionally, the Provincial Social Security Office will take care of benefits for the victims according to their social security rights. It will organize a team of doctors and nurses from hospitals in the network to provide initial care services in the affected areas.
“Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan is concerned about the workers and people affected by this flood situation. Therefore, he has instructed the Ministry of Labour and related agencies to work together and mobilize all forces to take care of the workers and the people to be as safe as possible. Efforts will aim to accelerate recovery after the water recedes according to the mission of each unit to bring the situation back to normal as soon as possible,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
