On September 29, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin joined the delegation with Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha to visit the area to monitor the flood situation and donate survival bags to flood victims in Chaiyaphum Province. The first point was to monitor the situation and visit to support and donate survival bags to flood victims at Khlong Phutsa Market, Mueang Chaiyaphum District. Governor of Chaiyaphum Province, Mr. Wichian Chantranothai, gave a summary of the situation. The second point was to encourage personnel and provide necessary items to Chaiyaphum Hospital. The third point was a visit to encourage and give survival bags to flood victims at Wat Chaichanawihan (Wat Ban La Han), Chaturus District, Chaiyaphum Province. Mr. Suchart said that the tropical storm “Dian Mu” had caused flash floods, causing the area’s workers, entrepreneurs, and people to be widely affected. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha were concerned about the people from the impact. Therefore, he visited the area to monitor the situation and encourage and give survival bags to alleviate the people’s suffering.
Mr. Suchart continued about the flood situation in Chaiyaphum. The water levels continue to rise in many districts, and many people have suffered. For initial support, the Ministry of Labour’s departments in Chaiyaphum Province, recently the Chaiyaphum Skill Development Office has arranged a 6-wheeled vehicle to provide pick-up services to people at various important points, such as hospitals and city halls. Heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour and staff of royally supported kitchens prepared lunch boxes for the victims and assigned staff to help fill waterproof sandbags with the Chaiyaphum Municipality. As for the Ministry of Labour’s agencies’ assistance, after the water recedes, the Provincial Skill Development Office will provide a service unit for repairing electrical appliances and small engines for agriculture to reduce the public’s expenses for damaged electrical equipment. Efforts will also include checking the safety of household wiring. The Provincial Employment Office will provide employment and occupational promotion services. The Provincial Labour Office will organize an urgent employment and skill development project, supporting compensation, including professional training materials so that people have a continuous income The Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Office will provide advice on rights under the labour protection laws, including social security rights, and will organize a team of doctors and nurses from hospitals in the network to provide initial care services in the affected areas.
“The Prime Minister is concerned about the workers and people affected by this flood situation. Therefore, he has instructed the Ministry of Labour and related agencies to work together and mobilize all forces to take care of the workers and the people to be as safe as possible. Efforts will aim to accelerate recovery after the water recedes according to the mission of each unit to bring the situation back to normal as soon as possible,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
