Labour Minister Joins PM Delegation to Visit Nonthaburi Province to Give Survival Bags Flood Victims

          On September 30, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin joined the delegation with Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha to visit the area to monitor the flood situation around the Chao Phraya River and the construction of flood-prevention barriers. They also paid a visit to affected people in low-lying areas outside the embankment in Nonthaburi Province. They inspected and monitored the water situation in the Talat Khwan community, meeting and speaking with the community around Talat Khwan Pier, Mueang District, Nonthaburi Province. Governor of Nonthaburi Province Mr. Sujin Chaichumsak joined the welcoming and reported a summary of the situation. Mr. Suchart said that the tropical storm “Dian Mu” had caused flash floods, causing the area’s workers, entrepreneurs, and people to be widely affected. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha are concerned about the community members who live along the Chao Phraya River because the amount of water in each province has accelerated to drain into the Chao Phraya River. Therefore, he visited the area to meet vendors and businesses along the Chao Phraya River, monitoring the water situation in the metropolitan area of Nonthaburi Province.
          Mr. Suchart added that the water situation in Nonthaburi is increasing from the end of the Chao Phraya Dam. Therefore, public relations must be made for the people to closely follow the news, as it may impact houses and people living on the waterfront. The news has spread awareness for residents to prepare for the situation. As for the initial assistance of the agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Nonthaburi Province, after the water recedes, the Provincial Skill Development Office will provide a service unit for repairing electrical appliances and small engines for agriculture to reduce the public’s expenses for damaged electrical equipment. Efforts will also include checking the safety of household wiring. The Provincial Employment Office will provide employment and occupational promotion services. The Provincial Labour Office will organize an urgent employment and skill development project, supporting compensation and providing professional training materials to have a continuous income. The Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Office will provide advice on rights under the labour protection laws, including social security rights. Additionally, the Provincial Social Security Office will take care of benefits for the victims according to their social security rights. It will organize a team of doctors and nurses from hospitals in the network to provide initial care services in the affected areas.
          “The Prime Minister is concerned about the workers and people affected by this flood situation. Therefore, he has instructed the Ministry of Labour and related agencies to work together and mobilize all forces to take care of the workers and the people to be as safe as possible. Efforts will aim to accelerate recovery after the water recedes according to the mission of each unit to bring the situation back to normal as soon as possible,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
