The Labour Minister met with retailers to listen to employment promotion measures. He visited Tesco Lotus employees, encouraging employers to hire part-time workers under the ‘Reuniting Thailand to Build Nation’ policy, joining forces from all sectors to jointly plan and determine the future of Thailand.
On August 21, 2020, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin met with Chairman of the Executive Committee, Ek-Chai Distribution System Co., Ltd. (Tesco Lotus) Mr. Sompong Rungnirattisai, to listen to employment promotion measures. He also visited Tesco Lotus employees at the Tesco Lotus Head Office and Sukhaphiban 1 Branch, on Nawamin Road, Bueng Kum, Bangkok. Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol and Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat also joined the occasion. The Labour Minister said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha, places great importance on driving the country forward accelerating economic recovery after the Covid-19 situation eases. The government has introduced the “Uniting Thailand to Build a Nation” policy, with the goal of joining forces from all sectors to come together to plan and determine the future of Thailand. From now on, the government will have to work with all sectors at all levels in society to get involved and have a greater role in helping to determine the future of the country. The Ministry of Labour’s policy is to meet large private organizations to ask for cooperation in arranging job vacancies for workers who are in trouble and unemployed so that they can return to the employment system as soon as possible, which will help drive the economy forward.
Mr. Suchart said that the Ministry of Labour’s policy is to assist people affected by Covid-19 by encouraging employers to promote employment and develop skills, whereby empowering workers to pursue a career. As for the aforementioned retail stores, all groups of employees have been employed continuously, creating jobs and careers to help those who were affected, to have a job and an income. For example, the company has hired employees from shops in the shopping center area who had to temporarily close their businesses to work in their branches. In addition, there was a free selling area for small and medium entrepreneurs in the food court. The company has responded to government policy to promote employment continuously, by preparing vacancies for those who want to work on an hourly basis (part-time) to help people affected by Covid-19 to have more options for work and to have additional income. There are approximately 10,000 vacancies for part-time workers, most of which are sorting products, customer service, food department staff, and vegetable/fruit cutting.
