Content Description

Mr. Julapun Amornvivat, Minister of Labour, disclosed details concerning the death of a Thai worker in the Republic of Korea, stating that he had received a preliminary report from the Labour Section of the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul (Labour Office in Seoul) regarding the death of Mr. Witsanu Laesher, a 32-year-old Thai worker originally from Chiang Rai Province. Mr. Witsanu had been working as a general industrial worker in the Busan area in southern South Korea on an E-9 visa since January 9, 2024. His colleagues found that he had died suddenly in his sleep during the morning of June 21, 2026.

Regarding coordination efforts, the Labour Office in Seoul is currently in discussions with the Consular Section and awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination by South Korean police before a death certificate can be issued. Mr. Witsanu’s younger sister has already been in contact with the Consular Section regarding the procedure for repatriating the body to Thailand, and the Consular Section has provided the family with full guidance and clarification on this matter, as well as on the benefits and assistance available to the deceased’s family.

Mr. Julapun stated that, in accordance with South Korean legal requirements, the Labour Office in Seoul is urgently liaising with the relevant authorities. Regarding the Overseas Workers’ Assistance Fund, Mr. Witsanu was a registered member, and his family may therefore prepare the necessary documentation to submit a claim to the Department of Employment. Approval of any financial assistance will be determined in accordance with the regulations of the relevant committee.

The Ministry of Labour extends its deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Witsanu Laesher and will continue to monitor developments to provide full support in every respect.
