Labour Minister Reports Government Support for Marigot Employees in Bang Pu; Latest Updates Say Company Has Transferred Compensation and Special Allowances to All Employees Totaling over 470M Baht

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported progress on the payment of compensation and special assistance in the case of Marigot Jewelry (Thailand) Company Limited, which ceased operations at Bang Pu branch, moving to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya branch. The government urged to follow up on the support for the employees in all dimensions. For the latest news, the company has successfully transferred money to all employees’ bank account, for a total value exceeding 470 million Baht.
          On January 31, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported the progress on the payment of statutory compensation and special allowances in the case of Marigot Jewelry (Thailand) Co., Ltd., which ceased operations at the Bang Pu branch. The company asked for all employees to move to work at the new office in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province. The government under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the Ministry of Labour under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, has a great concern for the workforce. Therefore, the Ministry of Labour has been instructed to work proactively and follow up on the results for supporting employees in times of crisis, track compensation payments, ensure the employer obeys the law, adhere to the justice process, and take action in all dimensions.
          Mr. Suchart said that from tracking statutory compensation payments and special allowances, the latest update was provided by Deputy Head of Human Resources Ms. Kannika of Marigot Jewelry (Thailand) Co., Ltd, who the company assigned on January 30, 2021. She said that the company had paid the statutory compensation and special assistance by transferring money through all employees’ bank account. The total amount is 470,628,497 Baht. The employees can now withdraw the said amount.
          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Deputy Director-General of the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare Ms. Sopa Kiatniracha to supervise and talk with employees and employers in the workplace. The employer confirmed that the employees’ employment was not terminated. The company had asked for cooperation for all employees to move to the new office in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, as the Bang Pu branch decreased product orders. Therefore, the company had to adjust its business plan and combine offices in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. There are 101 employees who wish to move to the new office. For the 1,610 employees who do not wish to move, the company paid the legal compensation, annual bonus, annual vacation, and special allowances, beyond statutory requirements, totaling over 470 million Baht. The Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office in Samut Prakan will check to pay for unemployment compensation benefits. The Samut Prakan Provincial Employment Office has prepared over 1,000 positions available for recruitment. In addition, the Company’s HR department said that there are companies that operate similarly, expressing their desire to accept Marigot employees, as they are skilled workers in jewelry manufacturing. The employees who do not wish to move to the new location say they have been with the company for years and already had plans to ask for retirement here, which was when the company planned to move to a new location. What the company gave was considered sufficient, as it was more than the legal requirements. The employees believe that the money would be used to continue living at home. For some employees who did not wish to move to the new location, the company also provides professional training to bring their knowledge to the top in their career.
