The Labour Minister responded to the Prime Minister in raising the level of units listening to the news of the National Labour Administration Center at the Ministry of Labour, 5th floor, which is the Ministry of Labour’s “Anti-Fake News Center.” The center’s objective is to clarify inaccurate news to the public promptly.
On June 21, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported that Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha is concerned for the public in consuming information disseminated through many channels, which creates misunderstandings for the people, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. In the past, there have been people with bad intentions disseminating false information online, people who follow the news to misunderstand the facts. Therefore, all government agencies have been ordered to help detect fake news related to their agencies, block such news, and quickly clarify accurate information to the public. It has established an Anti-Fake News Center at the Ministry of Labour to clarify news that is distorted from facts to the public promptly. At the same time, each government agency will take legal action against people who intentionally spread false information that causes the public panic, without having to wait for the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to take action alone.
Mr. Suchart said that the Ministry of Labour’s anti-fake news operation in the past was monitored by the National Labour Administration Center located on the 5th floor, Ministry of Labour. It serves to monitor news from various media, including social media, daily and reports all labour-related news in the Line group “news around the day.” Public relations officers of all government agencies under the Ministry of Labour are responsible for checking the information in the news details, whether it is misrepresented or distorted. Once found, clarification will be carried out with an official notice to the news editors to clarify the correct information, requesting assistance to amend the information or present the news again, as well as to prepare a press release to clarify the correct information to the press and disseminate it through various channels to the public to be informed of the correct information. The Ministry of Labour by the Department of Employment and the Department of Skill Development was among the top 10 agencies to identify face news quickly and respond to the MDES.
“Following the Prime Minister’s order to establish an Anti-Fake News Center at each ministry, I have instructed the Ministry of Labour to raise the level of monitoring the news by the National Labour Administration Center, on the 5th floor of the Ministry of Labour. It will become the Ministry of Labour’s Anti-Fake News Center, effective immediately,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
