Labour Minister Visits Khanom for Bartender Training Course to Develop Workforce to Support the Tourism industry’s Recovery After COVID-19

         On May 27, 2022, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin visited the area to meet and encourage the trainees of a bartender course under the labour potential development project to support tourism and services through skill upgrading courses. The visit was led by Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Deputy Governor Mr. Trairat Chumrat and Chairperson of the Tourism Council of Thailand, and President of the Khanom Tourism Association, Ms. Patcharapa Wongvorachat gave a welcome. Assistant Minister from the Prime Minister’s Office performing duties for the Ministry of Labour Police Major General Nantachat Supamongkol, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, Mr. Prateep Songlamyong, the Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Pairoj Chotiksetian, the Social Security Office’s Secretary-General, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives also joined the occasion at the Chonnapha Resort, Khanom Subdistrict, Khanom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.
         Mr. Suchart said that the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, have given importance to the development of labour potential to support the country’s opening following government policy. The efforts aim to prepare for labour demand after the COVID-19 situation has eased, causing the tourism and service businesses to begin to recover. Today, the Labour Minister and the Ministry of Labour’s executives visited the Khanom District in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province to encourage trainees of the bartender course under the labour potential development project to support tourism and services of high value.
         The bartender training course is a collaboration project between the Department of Skill Development and the Tourism Council of Thailand, the Association of Mixers and Services, the Eastern Thailand Bartender Club, and the Association of the Provincial Tourism Business Confederation of Thailand. The project aims to drive the Southern Economic Corridor (SEC) development policy to support sustainable tourism, which is the development of the economy in the new economic areas. The Ministry of Labour’s Nakhon Si Thammarat Institute of Skill Development 22 is a local agency that works with the Tourism Council of Thailand in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province and related agencies such as the Khanom Tourism Association. The organizations organized a pilot training course for bartenders to develop potential and upgrade the workforce in the tourism and service industry in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province to have skills and knowledge in beverage mixing as well as being able to apply the drink menu from local ingredients to make it new, exciting, and diverse. Twenty-five operators and employees of hotels and restaurants attended the training. The training period is 30 hours, from May 27 to 31, 2022.
