Labour Minister’s Advisor Suggests Home Workers Incorporate Ngop Hat Legend into Products in Trat

Content Description

“Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet” suggested groups to do work at home, inheriting the legend of Ngop in Trat province, focusing on producing products to meet the needs of customers based on folk wisdom.

On July 20, 2020, Advisor to the Labour Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet observed the production process of leave hats, whereby Trat Labour Officer Mrs. Jongkol Suwannan led the visit. The process incorporated local knowledge that has existed since the past and is used until now. The hats are sewn from leaves, which are then baked. They can be worn for protection from the sun, wind, and rain, and are a unique feature of Ban Nam Chiao, Laem Ngob, Trat. Ms. Narumon Kitnukroh, an expert in sewing the hats, has five designs of the headpiece. On April 16, 2020, workers registered for work at home with the Trat Provincial Employment Office and have been able to generate income for families and communities. The hats were sent to Ban Nam Chiao Tourism Community Enterprise and general customers. The Labour Minister’s Advisor suggested incorporating history and story to the product to increase the value and gain interest from both Thai and foreign customers. Those interested can contact Ms. Narumon Kitnukroh at 16/4 Village No. 2, Nam Chiao, Laem Ngob, Trat, Tel. 08-8990-4443.
