The “Labour Minister’s Assistant” attended the Special Session of the ASEAN Labour Ministers on the Future of Work on behalf of Thailand, in preparations to work with ASEAN member countries to support demographic and technological changes, showing Thailand’s intention to focus on tripartite participation and social partnership to drive sustainable development.
On April 29, 2019, the Labour Minister’s Assistant Police General Amnat Unardngam, the Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General Mr. Somsak Apiwantakul joined the Special Session of the ASEAN Labour Ministers at the Swissotel Raffles Convention Center in Singapore. On this occasion, General Amnart gave a statement on behalf of Thailand regarding the future of the work. The statement spoke about driving joint operations of ASEAN Member States to support challenging issues arising from changes in population structure and technology, by ensuring workers and businesses can adapt and be protected to not to be affected by changes. Thailand has focused on tripartite participation and social partnerships, following recommendations by the Report by the Global Commission on the Future of Work and Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, which will cover the target groups of women, people with disabilities, the elderly and youths, as well as focus on engagement with related sectors. The declaration of this statement will show joint political intentions between ASEAN member states in driving the policy to support the challenges and benefits arising from the future of the work.
Police General Amnat then signed the ASEAN Labour Minister’s statement on the future of the work and participated in listening to discussions from the tripartite conference with the participation of the government, employer and employee representatives. The occasion was honored by Mr. Guy Rider, Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
After completing the ASEAN Labour Minister’s Meeting, on April 30, 2019, Singapore will host a senior staff meeting which is a technical meeting to provide opportunities for social partners to exchange experiences and opinions. A draft proposal will be presented to propel the statement further.
