On September 13, 2022, at 14.00 hours, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned Assistant to the Labour Minister, Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong, to welcome Mr. Kittiwut Sasiwimonphan, Secretary-General of the Federation of Eastern Industries, and the executive committee of the Federation of Thai Industries in Chonburi Province, to meet and discuss the minimum wage rate of Chonburi and measures to help employers following the economic situation. They also discussed the registration and employment of persons with disabilities under Section 35. The meeting took place at the Saengsingkaew Conference Room, 5th Floor, Ministry of Labour. The Assistant to the Labour Minister said that the Department of Employment had provided a job promotion service to support people with disabilities in registering and searching for jobs, employing people with disabilities who wish to work in an establishment under Section 33. It has also coordinated with employers/owners of establishments and government agencies to arrange for people with disabilities to get interviews and job placements and receive registration for disabled persons or caregivers of persons with disabilities who apply for rights under Section 35 of the People with Disabilities Empowerment Act B.E. 2550, and its amendments (No. 2) B.E. 2556. It aims to support the needs of employers, business owners, or government agencies that want to employ people with disabilities and copy the list of people with disabilities registered to consider accepting them for work under Section 33 or entering into an employment contract with a disabled person under Section 35.
In addition, the Department of Employment has developed a project to promote the employment of socially disabled people (Article 35, subcontracting or service contracting) since July 2021. In 2022, the target of the type of contracting service was set for 1,000 people. To date, 1,499 people with disabilities have been employed, an increase of 45% from the target. The initiative has generated an income of 171,253,255 Baht for people with disabilities annually and will increase employment for people with disabilities by 20% each year within four years. This is considered a move to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities, creating job opportunities and offering concrete and direct benefits to support themselves and their families with dignity.
