Content Description

Malaysia is now in severe shortage of housemaids due to the fact that Indonesia, a country which is the largest exporter of housemaids to Malaysia has temporary suspended the dispatch of Indonesian housemaids to Malaysia. This is because the two countries have yet reached an agreement upon the wage hike for housemaids (from 400 ringgit to 800 ringgit, approximately equal to 8,000 Bath). In addition, it has been found on the front page news that there have been maid abuse cases where Indonesian housemaids are detained and physical abused by Malaysian owner.

Following the shortage of housemaid in Malaysia, Malaysian authority has declared to import more of foreign housemaid from other countries. Muslim workers will be prioritized. Recently Malaysian recruitment agencies have made number of offers to Thai people who are interested in the position, through both the Office of Labour Affairs in Malaysia and placement companies in Thailand with a proposed wage rate between 700 and 1,000 ringgit (approximately 7,000-10,000 Bath). These might not draw much attraction from Thai-Muslim people from the southern border provides.

However, those who are interested in the position should check with the Office of Labour Affairs in Malaysia through thier local Provincial Employment Office. They will need to have an employment contract which is approved by the Office of Labour Affairs in Malaysia before they can travel to work. In addition, they will need to notify Ministry of Labour before travelling so that it has needed record of travelers in order to provide assistance should problems occur and prevent deceive problem.
