Massive Crackdown on Illegal Immigrants After Hari Raya

A major crackdown on illegal immigrants will be launched immigration department, Ministry of Interior after Hari Raya Aidilfitri, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

A total 1.3 million of the more than two million undocumented foreigners in the country (before 6P) were registered under the 6P programme, which ended in October 2011. Of the figure, 500,000 applications for legalization were processed, while 330,000 illegals were repatriated while the rest of 500,000 illegals include Thais and Filipinos, Indonesian.

In preparing for the massive number of illegals to be picked up nationwide, Immigration director-general Datuk Alias Ahmad has ordered the Immigration directors of several states to identify areas to hold the detainees pending further processing in order to prevent overcrowding in the existing 12 detention centres in the country, which could only accommodate a maximum of about 1,000 immigrants each.

In this regard, Director-General of Department o Immigration expected some 60 per cent of illegals who would be rounded up to be Indonesians. Once the registration is completed, these immigrants will be deported on ferries from Pasir Gudang in Johor. The Thais will be repatriated via land
Office of Labour Affairs in Malaysia therefore would like to publicly inform Thais, particularly, Thai job seekers who came to seek for a job in Malaysia without work permit in order to prevent illegal working which would consequently be arrested by Malaysian government and  be prosecuted.
