          Labour Minister General Sirichai Distakul presided over the Ministry of Labour’s 24th anniversary, which started with an alms-giving ceremony to 9 monks and ceremony to pay homage to the shrines around the premises. The event was launched under the name “The Ministry of Labour’s 24 Years for an Intellectual and Innovative Workforce”. From there the Labour Minister was presented with congratulatory bouquets on the occasion of the ministry’s 24th anniversary from various units, which took place at the Ministry of Labour’s foyer.

          The Labour Minister then presided over the award ceremony at the Jompol P. Pibulsongkran conference room, which awarded trophies to 26 outstanding models of good labour practices, 162 trophies to honourary government official retirees in 2017, 9 trophies to outstanding labour volunteers and awards to the 6 winners of household worker contest who had taken loans from the homeworker loan fund. The Labour Minister congratulated all award recipients and explained the Ministry of Labour’s wide scope of responsibility which relies on close collaboration, particularly with the private sector that supports the ministry’s initiatives on workforce development, employment promotion, labour protection and workplace safety. He spoke about government official and officer retirees which have shown outstanding performance in serving the people, saying that they should be remembered and taken as models for continuing service to the nation and its people. 

          The Labour Minister continued on the topic of the ministry’s numerous missions and responsibilities from skills development, employment, social security foundations and welfare to prevention of migrant worker issues, drugs and human trafficking. He spoke about sacrifice and fulfilment of duties which are key contributors to driving the Ministry of Labour’s missions to success. 

Since 2006 the Ministry of Labour has assigned labour volunteers to act on behalf of the Ministry of Labour and to connect with the local communities and peoplefor better access to services. The population of volunteers has increased overtime to cover the entire nation where today it has 17,932 volunteers comprising 7,255 paid volunteers at the sub-district level and 10,677 people as members of labour volunteer networks.
