Ministry of Labour Creates Skills Development Network for Thailand 4.0

            Today, 18 January 2017 a seminar on “Skills Development Networks in Support of Thailand 4.0” commenced at 13.45 hours, at the Emerald Ratchada Hotel in Bangkok. Permanent Secretary of Labour M.L.  Puntrik Smiti gave a speech saying, “The government has enforced policies to develop the national economy towards a Thailand 4.0, implementing the 20-year national strategies as a mechanism to drive operations under civil state ideology. In order to align with the 12th national economic and social development plan, we must restructure national economical foundations to be driven by innovation, science and creativity. This means that we must change the way we implement important strategies; one of them is to develop human resource foundations requiring a standardized workforce. This requires training for the pre-workforce population, preparing them for the working life and also development of existing workers, encouraging adaptability to changing technology in order to enhance competitiveness in trade, investment and economic growth.”

 

 

            The Permanent Secretary of Labour explained that in order to meet skills development targets, cooperation from both public and private enterprises would be necessary. The Department of Skills Development has thus created a network to develop the workforce to drive operations. She said that the seminar was arranged with the objective to allow the Department of Skills Development’s network to participate and acknowledge comments to improve operations, aligning with the needs of the people and labour market, as well as enhancing relationships between all parties under the slogan “creating networks through civil state ways to eliminate corruption”. Certificates were presented to private networks comprising 28 organizations including Nippon Paint (Thailand), Thai Yamaha Motors, NS Bluescope (Thailand), Schneider Electric Thailand and Siam City Cement. The companies supported skills development efforts in 2016, providing training to a combined 9,279 building electricians, metal foundation and sheet installers, and building painters. In addition to this, the network of companies have also contributed over 25 million Baht for training purposes, reducing the government’s budget and also promoting familiarity with advanced technology.
