MOL Commences Health Canteen Project to Promote Quality of Life for Personnel as a Model Health Organization

          On September 23, 2021, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol assigned Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Ms. Aumpun Thuwawit presided over the opening ceremony of the Ministry of Labour’s Healthy Canteen project, under the project to create a model for wellness organizations to raise the quality of life among workers sustainability. The Ministry of Labour’s Healthy Canteen Project Coordinator Mr. Banyat Luanpan, gave a report. Mr. Thapabutr Chomsevee, President of the Association for Leaders of Change for Labour Development, Mr. Arthit Ismo, Project Executive for the “Healthy and Safety to be Decent Work,” along with the participants of the fourth class from the Leaders of Change for Labour Development program participated in this event at the Ministry of Labour’s canteen, 1st floor, Ministry of Labour. Mr. Bunyat said that the Ministry of Labour received a budget from the Health Promotion Fund (ThaiHealth) to create a model wellness organization project to enhance workers’ quality of life towards sustainability. Each department within the ministry prepares a project to propose to the working group for consideration, approval, and action. Each project focuses on good health for personnel in the organization, following the criteria of the Happinomiter happiness meter, such as being happy, healthy, having a good heart, having a good job, having a good family, having a good financial position, and a good place to work where there are hygienic facilities and disease prevention, including the prevention of Covid-19 that is currently spreading.

          Mr. Banyat continued that the Healthy Canteen project is operated by the Office of the Permanent Secretary of Labour and the Social Security Office. The objective is to enhance the development of restaurants to meet the specified standards and quality assurance of food within the Ministry of Labour. The efforts aim to reduce the risk of harm and disease caused by unsafe food consumption of service users of the Ministry of Labour’s canteen. It also aims to provide more knowledge to entrepreneurs and create awareness of quality, cleanliness, and value for money, and to provide service users with a place to eat that is convenient, clean, and hygienic, that meets nutritional standards, and is worth the price. The target group is civil servants and officials of the Ministry of Labour and the public.

          This project has included improvements to the Ministry of Labour’s area on the first floor to ensure hygiene. A working group was established to set standards, supervise, control, and inspect food quality. The working group has met to set standards to coordinate with the Department of Health to visit and inspect the food center to ensure it passes the standards of quality canteens that are clean and safe in terms of food sanitation following the ministerial regulations. There are healthy menus, including shops selling fresh fruit. Vendors are asked to reduce the amount of sugar in food and beverages. Signs indicate the sodium and sugar content at the tables, and energy and nutrients information per dish is posted in the food court area. The Ministry of Labour sincerely hopes that the Healthy Canteen will be useful for service users to have a better quality of life, better health and continue to create a model for other public and private agencies.
